Cross co untry ski clInic at forest centre Duec. 17 At a news conference on Tbursday at the Ganaraska Forest Centre staff at the Forest Centre outlined a series of four special winter recreation eventa to be held at the centre during the next four months. These will. include a Cross Country Ski Clinic, the World of Snow- shoes, Winter Magic and a Ganaraska Loppet. The first event, a Cross Country Ski Clinic, wil be held this coming Sunday, December l7tb and wil commence at 2:00 p.m. Tbe clinîc will have at least a two-fold urpose in tbat it will of ski boots, poles etc. whicb one may be considering as Christmas presents or for personal use. The clinic will demonstrate proper ski-waxing and main- tenance of equipment. It will also outlîne proper lotbing for the sport as well as providing a list of articles which sbould be carried when skiing. The clinic will also describe the various types of equipment that are on the market and make suggestions as to its proper use. It was stated that this should be a great asset to those who are considering purcbasing new equipment or purchasing a Christmas gif t. There will be a short ski tour over the yellow trail following the clinic. This event along witb the other tbree are being offered free of charge at the Forest Centre wbere bot chocolate will be served to tbose taking part in the outings. Tbe calendar of events at the centre also include, "The world of snowsboes" to be beld on Saturday, January 2tb at 1:00 p.m. The tecb- nique of snowsboeing will be demonstrated along witb the presence of a display illus- tratîng the bistory of snow- shoeing. A limited number of snowsboes will be available for a bike in the forest. On Saturday, February l7tb at il a.m. it is "Winter Magic". November 25th, Orono 6, Bowmanville 2 On Saturday, November 25th Orono Bantams hosted Bowmanville Bantam B's comning Up with strong goaltending and a good team effort. Steve Stec lead the attack witb a hatrick, and Ken Farrow, Steve Wood and Paul King, picked up singles. Kirk Carr had 2 assists and Ken Farrow and Scott Prescott picked Up singles. November 27th - Orono 6, Bowmanville 1 In a return match played at Darlington Sports Centre, Orono again skated to victory. The Orono boys battled back from a 2 goal deficit to corne away with a 4-4 draw. Bob Zych was sensational off the trails at the forest. Survival skills wil be taugbt. As well as proper clotbing and food will also be covered. Those takîng part are asked to pack a lunch for the expedition. December lst - Orono 7, Beaverton 3 The Orono club first battled the elements to drive to Beaverton for this gaine Friday night and then did battie with Beaverton Bantams on the ice. Kirk Carr was the hero of the night picking up 4 goals and 1 assist. Other scorers were Ken Farrow (2) and Steve Stec with 1 goal and 1 assist. Vanice Prue got a pair of assista with singles to Scott Prescott and Paul King. This was another strong team effort witb Bob Zych very sharp in goal. December 2 - Orono 2, Peterborough 4 By Saturday night the boys had played 4 games and just ran a little short of gas. The boys put up a strong effort losing a close game 4-2 with the 4th goal into an empty net af ter several good attempt to tie the game. Ken Farrow scored the first goal withbhelpi from Kirk Carr and Steve Wood. The 2nd goal was also a nice 3-way passing play with Kirk Carr scoring wîth assista to Vanice Prue and Steve Sfiec. mencing at 10:00 a.m. bas been set aside for the Gan- araska Loppet, a 25 km. race tbrough the beautif ul trails of the Ganaraska. It was pointed out that the whole family can take part in the event wbere eacb individual races against the dock. It is also meant to be an enjoyable and funffiled outing. There will be fresh bot chocolate after each event. The chalet at the forest centre will open on December l6tb for both cross country skiers and snowmobilers. At this time the tables and benches will be provided and the canteen will be open.
