MY STORY >My name is Samuel Fair- well. I've been dead now for thirty-three years, but L'i tel you my story. I was born in 1914, that's when World War I was, you know. My father, Frederick Fairweil was leaving behind my mother, six saucy child- ren, two dogs, one cat, four horses and some cattie to look after, while he was gone to war. Four years World War 1 lasted, four years! Two years later my father stili hadn't corne home, that only meant he was dead. Sorrow and horror lived with us for the rest of the years and even more when I was old enough to join the Air Force. 1 wanted to join and I did. September 3rd, 1939, 1 went to Europe to fight in the longest and toughest war in history, World War II. My mother didn't care, for she had just died a month before. Everybody thought that I was depressed because my mother had died and then I had to go to war. I wasn't depressed, I was happy. I went to war and' was a pilot. I got i nto my plane and flew up into the air. Below me I could see men in trenches fighting and dying. What an awful sight it was! I was flying over another battle field, when someone started shooting ait me. I looked out the window and ... I got shot In the shoulder. My plane was out of control swooping and circling down towards the ground. Crash. The plane had crashed and was on fire. There was no way of escape, especially with a wvounded arm. I decided to staythere and die. When the lieutenants found me I heard one of themn say, '-PooF man, at least he could have taken part of thé victory". We had won! We had won World War il! That is mny story and 've been telling this story to cýhildren who are interested in the war for thirty-thr-ee years. 1 hope we have an'other ghiostly chat.
