There was a good attend- ance at church on Sunday .morning, Dec. l7th. White Gif t Sunday at Kendal. The response to the White Gif t Offering to help our mission- aries was quite gratifying. The Sunday School children were asked by their teacher to earn the rnoney for their white gif t envelopes during the week. The children's gifts came to $15.00. A nurmber of girls sang, "Go tell it ouii.the mountain that Jesus Christ is bora", accompanîed by Mrs. K. Wood The third advent candie was lit by Murray Greenwood. Then we had a du'et by Robin Ibbotson and Donald Fonk entitled, "I have a mansion over the hilltop" and accompanied by Mrs. A '. Foster. The scripture reading was Luke 2:1-20 and Rev. A. Tizzard chose as his subject, "The Night Before Christ- mas". Something happened on the night before the First Christmas. People were ex- pecting a Messiah to corne triumphantly. They were Ilot expecting a baby. Maybe Mary and Joseph were hoping to pay their taxes and get home but they could find no room. "Room for pleasure, room for fun, but no.room for the crucified one". The shepherd wondered how they would find the babe. They returned glorifying and praising God. When one finds Christ nothi'ng is the same afterwards. The wise men saw a strange star and followed it. They found Khiýg Herod. H1e knew nothing of a new,ý king ;,ut they were dirccted to Bethlehem. The wise men feil down and worshipped him. First of al they gave themselves. Then they gave gold, the very best, the frankincense, that is they worshipped him as God, and lastly myrr. They knew he was goiag to die. They thought of hlm as man and God. The wise men returned home another way. God came down as Jesus on the first night before Christmas. He closed his message with some verses from his Christmas greeting entitled, "Christmas with Love" Christmas means a lot of turkey, and other things as well; But there is a greater meaning, Christ- came with us to dwell. Christmas is a time of peace As we celebrate His Birth; t was the father's gif t of lové To al] that dwell on earth. But what with scanning outer space, Wth space ships going fast;, And the buyinig and the selling 0f things that do not last. We must read again the story, From the Gospels of the Book; Then we'll know just why H1e came, Therefore take another look. Mrs. Elinore Foster, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Fonk and their three boys of Woodstock spent Sunday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Carruthers of Bowmanvîlle and family. nears it's our pleasure to stop and express aur sincere appreciation for your patronage.
