Suggest Region pay for Newcastle Srs.- The Community Services Committee of the Town of Newcastle feels that the use of the Oshawa Senior Citizens tacilities by residents outside of the city should be viewed as a regional responsibility and thuls supported through reg- ional funds. The City of Oshawa in a letter brought the matter to the attention of the Town of Newcastle and stated that due to funding it miay be necessary for Oshawa to cut off use by residents outside of the city. In the letter to Newcastle it was pointed out that there were 5219 from the City using the senior citizen facilities, with an additional 661 from outside the city. 0f this number 3268 from the city held memberships with 267 from outside the city holding memberships. 0f the 267 holding membership from outside the city 137 were from the Town of Newcastle with the majority fromn the Town of Bowmanville. The Town committee feit that the Town should. not make a financial commit- ment to Oshawa to assist with the facilities and program but that such financial assistance should corne fromn the region. At the present timne the city of Oshawa provides all funding for the facil ities and pro- gram. Mayor Rickard said he would support funding from the Region to Oshawa -for the programn as it did have regional significance.
