4, Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, January X0 1982. SP FOR TS Millbrook, Man vers take Novice edge On Friday, January 8, the Roughley Insurance Novice hosted Millbrook for their wcekly home gaine. The first period action saw Millbrook score one goal, and at the start of the second period they added another. Then Kevin Roberts put Oronio in the gaine, banging in a pass froin Dustin Reid and Chris Stadelmann. Millbrook scored another to end the se- cond period. David Sheridan, playing in goal for Orono, was very sharp as he stopped many shots. Millbrook started the scoring in the third period, with Sean Win- ning and Brad Minnïs. Finial score Millbrook 4 to Orono's 2. A week Iter, Manvers came to town, on January 15. A very close gaine was played, with Shawn Hardy between the pipes for Orono, stopping mnany shots. Manvers scored the only goal in the first period. The se- cond period was Orono's, as the Manvers goalie stopped many excellent scoring chances. Kevin Roberts lifted one high into the corner, passed along by Chris Stadelmann and Dustin Reid, to tic the gaine up. The third period saw no scoring, as the teams went end to end. Final score 1 to, 1. Jcff Hartwig and Scott McAllister played well ail night on their line, with Jin Partner playing well defensively. On Sunday, the teain batti- cd the cold, wintery wcather to rcturn to Manvers. Again Shawn Hardy played well in goal for Orono. On a power play in the first period. Jason Major scored froin the point, witb a hard drive into the cor- ner, set up by J.B. Brachvogel and Cameron Esler. The second period Orono held thern scoreless. Half way through the third period Manvers tied it up. With just one minute left in the gaine and a scramrble in front of the Orono net, Manvers slid one in, to take the win 2 to 1. Jeff Devolin, Craig Nemis, and Roy Mit- chell added to Orono's at- tack. Two excellent gaines of hockey boys, keep up the good work. utrch Oven Tykes storm over Man vers On Sunday January 17, the blizzard outside Manvers Mrena was carried inside by the Orono Tykes as they stormned past the home teain 7-1. Jarrett Prescott led the attack with three goals assisted by Scott Williams and Steven Stadîin-an. Steven teained with Sco tt and Jarret for one goal while Brent Gates fired two goals assisted by Trevor Lomax and Ryan Marsani. Trevor scçred his fîrst goal of the year assistEd by Brent and Ryan. Greg Hooper with Christopher Yeo and Jean- Paul Tousignant played well keeping Manvers off the scoreboard. The coaches were very pleased with the ifine defensive play of Branden Overden. Scott Hall, Shane Jones and Sean McKenzie. Excellent goal tending by Ryan Rock and John But- tigieg frustrated the Manvers forwards many time. Teain record - 9 wins; I loss; 1 tic. l.O.O.F. PeeWees drif t to two wins The Orono l.O.O.F. travelled to Omeiece on Thursday, Jan. l4th. and skated away with a 4-1 win. Darren Dennis opened up the scoring with an unassisted goal to give the local boys a 1-0 lead. Omeince came back to tic the gaine at 1 -1 only to have Wayne Atkins score for Orono with an assist to Deon Dias. Orono had completely dominated the gaine to this point and the constant pressure began to pay off as Robert Snoek scored an unassisted goal to extend Orono's lead to 3-1. Tim Mercer topped off a fine gaine with an unassisted goal to close out the scoring at 4-1. This was a fine effort by the I.O.O.F. peewees and the score could have been higher exept for somte good goalten- ding by the Omeince goal tender and sorte unluc ky breaks. Special mention to Deon Dias, Goran Zagar and Cory Melville with sorte ex- cellent plays. Orono l.O.O.F. Peewees played at home on Friday, Jan. lStb. and skated to a 7-5 win over Ennismore (2). Robert Snoek opened the scoring for Orono witb an assist to Darren Dennis. En- nismore tied the gaine at 1-1. Then Orono replied with two goals by Robert Klepac assisted by Richard Boumteester and Darren Den- nis assisted by Brian Hill and Robert Snoek. The teains traded goals as the visitors narrowed the score to 3-2 on- ly to have Brian Souch score assisted by Robert Snoek and Chris Richards open the score to 4-2 F.nnisrnore scored neut and then Brian Hill counted two goals. The first assisted by Robert Snoek and Chris Richards. The second assisted by Mike Lane and Robert Snoek to extend Orono's lead to 6-3. Orono stopped skating allowing Ennismore to score two goals to narrow the score to 6-5 near the end of the thîrd period. Stutt BÎan ýtams make comeback to win The Stutts Pharmacy Ban- tains started the 1982 part of their league schedule very poorly. The visiting Manvers club defeated Orono by a score of 4-O. The Pharmnacy Bantams did not show much hustle and were not ready to, play hockey. On Tues. Jan. l2th. the Stutts Pharmacy Bantains travelled to Omemee. They defeated Omince by a score of 8-5. Greg Vey scored four, Stephen Murree with 3 «and the single goal going to Paul Henry. The assists went to Robert French 2, Paul Henry 2, Stephen Murree 1, Richie Dupe 1 and Jin Wood 1. Paul Rosseanu, Stephen Mur- ree and Paul Henry played strong gaines for the Orono club. Hlamilton Midgets tie with Newcastle team Orono travelled to Newcas- tle on Tuesday evening for their last meeting of the year. Orono played well enough to win but it was not to be as referee Ron Shakelton called two penalties late in the third perioid with Orono ahead by one goal. The local boys tired but could not hold on as Newcastle put on, the pressure to tic the gaine with 52 seconds remaining. PeeWees cool out after two big wins Orono 8 - Bowinanville 1 On Monday Jan. 4, 1982 the Matthews and Hill In- surance O.M.H.A. PeeWees played host to Bowmanville Toros i an Exhibition gaine and camne up with one of their most productive nights of the year. The Orono boys outhustled the Toros to the puck ail night and completely domiinated the gaine froin start to finish. Scoring for Orono were: Steven Lycett and Scott McCulllough with two each and singles going to Darren Lewis, Kevin Mum- ford, Kevin Hartwig and Robert Snoek. Honourable Mention goes to Mike Lane and Goran Zagar and Special Mention to Brian Hill with a big hat trick. Stuart lrwin. Assists went to Brent Hutton, ' Scott M.c- Cullough, Shawn Bailey 2, Brad Roberts, Darren Lewis, Stuart Irwin 2, David Bailey, and Patrick Woods 2. Special Mention to Brent Hutton, Patrick Woods and Steven Lycett for an excellent effort. Orono 10 Manvers 2 On Wednesday, Jan. 6, the Matthews and Hill Ins. O.M.H.A. PeeWees travelled to Manvers for their final meeting of the year. The local boys again were goal bungry as ini their previous gaine and caine out flying again coin- pletely outhustling and domninating the gaine froin start to finish. Scoring for Orono were: Brad Roberts 2, Stuart Irwin 2, David Bailey, Shawn Bailey, Darren Lewis, Brent t Hutton, Kevin Muinford and Patrick Woods with assists going to Scott McCullough 3, Brent Hlutton 2, Darren Lewis 2, Stuart Irwin, Brad Roberts and Kevin Muinford. Good team effort guys. Orono 3 Bownsanville Toros No. 2 - 8 On Sunday, Jan. l7th. the Matthews and Hill O.M.H.A. Peewees travelled night homtegaine was postponed due to poor weather conditions. On Jan. 14, we travelled to Newcastle to get revenge for the defeat we suffered the last time xe played thein by coming away wîth a 7-2 victory. Todd Therteil opencd the scoring with 2:35 remaining in the lst. period with assists going to Blaine Souch and Brian Goodwin. Before the period ended Ted Gaudet put Orono in froin 2-0 with help froin Brian Rodd and Doug Bed- ford. In the 2nd. period Brian Goodwin connected froin Blaine Souch to make it 3-0 Orono. The 3rd. period saw Orono break the gaine wîde open by scoring 3 goals in the space of two minutes. The Orono marksmen were Ted Gaudet t'rom Anthony Webb and Brian Rodd, Todd Hut- ton froin Jason Burnham and Lauren Kaldeway and Todd Thertell froin Blaine Souch and Brian Goodwin. At this point Newcastle started a come back spoiling Kevin Avery's shut out attempt with 2 goals but it was too little too late. Ted Gaudet rounded out the scoring getting his 3rd. goal of the gaine and the hat trick with an assist going to Todd Gray. The final score: Orono 7 and Newcastle 2. On Jan. l7th. Orono travelled to Millbrook where we bumrbled the homte teain by the score of 3-2. This gaine was typical of our two previous meetings with to Darlington Mrena for an exhibition gaine against the Toros 2 Teain. The local boys could flot seem to get their act together after a 11/2 wk. layoff and had littlc hustle aIl night. In this gante Millbrook opened the ,coring in the first period but less than 13 seconds later Ted Gaudet scored fromn Dong Bedford and Brian Rodd to tie the garne att1-î. Before the period ended however, MilIbrook bouniced back to regain the lead. In the 2nd. period Todd Hutton tied the score getting help on the play froin L. Kaldeway and Todd Therteli. Ted Gaudet then put Orono ahead ahead to stay with 1: 12 left in the 2nd. period froin Todd Thertel and Todd Hutton. The third period saw Millbrook try desperately to tie the score as they out shot us by a wide margin but Mike Goodmur- phy with a super effort in goal kept thein off the score sheet. On Jan. l8th. Orono travelled to Omemee for what 1 guess can best be dcscribed as a disaster. We got blown out by the score of 9-2. Our efforts weren't really helped by a refereeîng job that left a bit to be desired as they coin- pletely lost control of the gaine. The only bright spot was Ted Gaudet's perfor- miance as he notched his sixth and seventh goals in the Iast three gamnes. 1 looks like bis trying to pull a Wayne Gretzky. An- thony Webb picked up as assist on the lst. goal while BMaine Souch and Todd Gray helped out on the 2nd. Glood Luck in the upcom- ing Peterborough tour-na- ment. 1
