6, Ohon. WeekIy Thme, Weduehday, Jonuiury 20, 1982. Teacher of the Week fly: Wendy Procher Mrs. MacKenzîe is one of our newest teachers at Clarke. She was born in a small town the size of our "well known" Orono in a place called Port McNicoll, Ontario. Port McNicoll is on Georgian Bay just outside of Midland. Wben she eias five years of age the faniily moved to Oshawa and she spend the rest of hier childhood years there. She married, but has stayed living in Oshawa. Mrs. MacKenzie used to consider going through University to become a chartered accountant on to work full time at General Motors in the personnel area, Oshawa, McKenzie went to Ryerson Polytechnicai In- stitution, Toronto, to receive ber B.A.A. Wbîle going through Ryerson she spent her four summrrers working at G. M. After Ryerson, MiacKenzie entered the University of Toronto for ber teacher's cer- tificate as she always was in- terested and hiad the ambition to become a teacher as work- ing with people is one of her greatest motIivations. During the scbool year, in 80-81, MacKenzie taught at Courtice. Due to the Iack of students enrolled she was in- formed in April that she would lose hier job in June. With that the Principal pointed out that there was to be a job opening at Clarke Hligh School in the Business Departmnent. In conclusion she applied and was hired in Juihe. As of now MacKenzie teaches Data Processing, Business Studies and Retail- ing. In the next semester which is fast approaching, she will also be teaching accounting. Staying at Clarke is where she hopes to settle down for at least a few more years. During the summer, camp- ing is brougbt into the pic- ture, while in the winter it's always been an enjoyment to go cross-country skiing. MacKenzie's "better haîf" or shalI say husband just bougbit a new skidoo so the skis just might be put away for awbile. After hier outings this winter, 1 am sure she'd just love to snuggle up with a good book to just... ,relax! Hrigh ligh ts"' Clarke High School by Jim DJevins Chlldren Learn What They Live It was really frigbtening for Robert Daniels. Sitting in the court room hearing tbe judge pass a death sentence on him, seemed like a bad dreain. -Daniels was guilty! Tbere was no doubtl But be didn't want to die, 4(l"wek before tbe trial, Robert was sitting in a bar trying to drown bis sorrows. He had just been fired from bis job. Daniels always wanted bis own way. He bad been t hat way since he was a child.- Robert's boss didn't give Robert bis own way, which resulted in a fight lit was Robert Daniels, who~ threw the first punch. His boss didn't lay charges, so lic was also celebrating. Maybe if Mrs. Daniels hadn't spoiled ber son so much when be was a cbld, Robert would not be in this situation. In the midst of Daniel's drunken stuper, sonieone grabbed bim by the shoulder and pulled bim on the floor. Wben his vision was focused, Robert saw a man standing over bim, Iaugbing. Wbat bappened next, Daniels couldn't remember,. until he felt tbe cold metal clasps on bis wrists. In front of him lay a motionless, bloody figure. As it turned out, in tbe bar, Robert had pulled a knife on this man tbat, stood there laughing at him. Tbis man was a cop, that wanted to drive Daniels borne, as he was s0 druîik. On bis way, Mrs. Daniels ran up to bim in tears. She cried, "Wbere did I go wrong? I neyer raised you to be a killer." Robert slapped bis mother in tbe face and yelled, "Maybe, if you badn't spoil- ed me and let me do what 1 wanted. .Maybe, I wouldn't bave killed that man!" 'ie moral of this story is: Cbildren sbould be allowed to do what tbey want, to a point. A child should be shown discipline as well as love. If a child is brought up to do what be/she wants, he/she wiIl be like that for thie rest of His/Her life., Like they say, "Children learn wbat tbe-y live."- Centre the creek and returned to the Centre to paint pictures of wbat tbey had seen and to gain furtber knowledge of tbe outdoors.
