We went by bus. We visited the Council Chambers at City Hall. Our class enjoyed a ride on the subway. We walked through the skywalk which connects Simpson's and Eaton's. We had fun using the escalators, elevators and revolving doors. Some of us went to the top floor of the Eaton's park- ing garage and looked way down to the street. Somre of us went to see the bronze statue of Timothy-Eaton. Ail of us went to Mcdonald's and Burger King. After lunch, our class went to the Ryerson Theatre to see a live performance of Tom- Sawyer. It was announced last week by the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources that a new office would be set up to handle low-level radio- atctive waste from areas such as Port Hope, Scarborougb and Bancroft. The new office to be known asCanadian Low- Level Radioactive Waste Management Office will be charged with finding a per- manent storage site for such wastes and to develop new technologies to make it safe. Low-Level Radioactive wastes in Port Hope are now being stored, on a temporary basis, on Town-owned lands in Port Hope. Radioactive souls in Scarborough have flot been removed from residen- tail properties as no one bas beên able to find a site for storage that does flot meet witb resistance. The new office will be set up this year but as yet no time bas been set for the office to become active.- The new federal office will take over responsibility from the pre- sent federal-provincial com- mittee wbicb bas been responsible for radioactive cleanups in Canada.
