Peewees travelled to Millbrook for the second round of the semi- finals. The Orono boys had a chance to, advance into the finals but unfortunately carne up with one of their worst ef- forts of the season and they lost 4-0. Orono did not get too, many breaks as thcy ran, in to a hot goaltender and hacd many shots hit off the post and crossbar. Millbrook skated and checked extremely well and Orono cornpoundcd the problern to Richard Bourneester and Robert Klepac and to Cory Melville and Mike Lane for, a strong gaine on defense. Orono wîll host Millbrook on Frid. March th. for the final game, of the series. On Friday, March th. Orono I.O.O.F. Peewees hosted Millbrook in the final serni-final playoff game. The fans wcrc treatcd to an ex- cellent tension filled game with Orono coming out the victors by a 5-2 score. Orono opened the scoring on a goal by Robert Snoek assisted by Chris Richards only to have Millbrook tic the score at 1-1 a short tirne later. Millbrook scored again and took a 2-1 lead which they held until the end of the second period as the checking was very close with no team gctting any ad- vantage.* At the start of third period with cverybody getting nervous Robert Snock tied the score at 2-2 wîth an assist to Darren Dennis. This goal seerned to lift the home tcarn as they started to pressure Millbrook which paycd off with a goal by Brian HilI assisted by Brian Souch and Mike Lane. The play swung cornplctely to Orono at this point as Robert Snoek tallied a goal assistcd by Brian Hill to make the score 4-2 for the l.O.O.F. A short tirne later Brian scored agaîn with assists to Robert Snoek and Brian Souch. Special mention goes to Robert Snoek for his hat trick and to-Mike Lan e and Cory Melville for a strong game on defense. The I.O.O.F. peewees now advance to the Tri-County Southerni Loop finals. Omemee two up on Roughley Novice entry The O.M.H.A. Novie opened their final round of play-offs in Novice D by playing in Onernee on Wednesday evening. The Orncmcc club has given the Orono boys trouble ailI 'yar and toaight was no exception. They carne up *with five unanswered goals in the first period as the team lacked the usual drive they norrnally have. Carneron Esler puit Orono on the scoreboard, beating the Onernee goalie on his glove side taking a pass from David Sheridan and Jim Partncr. Ornemce got their last goal of, the game before the second period was over. Orono made a comneback in the third period as they picked'up the play and carried it into Omemee's end many times. J.B. Brachvogel scored' his first banging in a Craig Nemis, Roy Mitchell pass. Then Kevin Roberts tipped one in assisted by Jason Ma- jor. Unfortunately, the end of the gane carne with Orniernee taking the win by a score of 6 to 3. On Friday night Ornemee travelled to Orono. Again they carne out flying, and beat Orono's goalie Shawn Hardy with two goals in the first pcriod. David Sheridan got Orono into the garnie car- ly in the pcriod frame poking it in from behind the net on a pass frorn Kevin Roberts. Ornerne added two more to end the second frame. Jcff Devolin scorcd a goal in the third pcriod, poking in a loose puck flippiing in front of Omemee's goalle while Camoron Esler, and Chris Standelrnann also got a crack at it. The boys did play an îm- proved garne over the last one but still camne up short with Orncmnee taking the wini by a score of five to two. The next gamne returns to Omemee on Wednesday nîght with the fourth gaine if niecessary in Orono on Friday night at 6:30. Stutts' Banitams win fistin quarter finals On Sat. March 6th. The Situtts Pharrnacy Bantamns hosted Warkworth for the %first game of the AIl Ontario Quarter Finals. Orono won the gamne by a score of 4-3. Greg Vey scored a hat trick for Orono with the single marker going to Guy Brachvogel. Paul Rosscau and Greg Vey picked up an assist each. The Stutts, Pharmacy Ban- tams traveledt t Warkworilh on Sun. March 7th. for the second game of the series. Orono defeated Warkworth 4-1, Guy Brachvogel scored two goals with singles going to Robert French and Greg Vey. Greg Vey and Robert French picked up an assist, each. Eric Dreslinski and Robert French played strong games. boys poured on the pressure and with 2:01 left Darren Lewis tied it at 4-4 assisted by Brad Roberts and Scott Mc- Cullough. The boys kept the pressure on and with 1:30 left, in the gamne Scott Mc- Cullough camne up wit L he Diutch Oven Tykes bomb Mfillbrook squad Orono Tykes visited the Millbrook Tykes on Satur- day, March 6th. Scott Williamns scored the first goal -for- Orono assisted by Christopher Yco at the 2.59 mark of the first pcriod. Trevor Lomax cornbined with Shane Joncs for the se- cond goal a few minutes later. In the second period the Orono attack continued as Greg Hooper scored assistcd by Trevor and Jean-Paul Tousignant. Steven Standlernan picked up a pass from David Paynton-Stcwart for Orono's fourth goal. Christopher Yeo shot the puck past the bewildered Millbrook goalie. Assists went to Scott Williams and Branden Overden on the play. Grcg Hooper having a super day pickcd up two goals in a row for his hat trick. David Shrnmyr, Shane Jones, Ryan Rock and Jean- Paul Tousignant assisted on Greg's goals. Brent Gates cleared the puck out of the. Orono end to Tirn HalIoweil who passcd it to David Paynton-Stewart for a real nice goal. Despite repcated atternpts by Millbrook to get back in the game Jarrett Prescott in goal for Orono made sorte fine saveson the way to his shut-out. An unassisted goal by David Shmyr and another goal by Steven Standleman assisted by David Paynto- Stewart finishcd off the scor- ing with Orono winning 10-0, An excellent garn e boys good luck next Saturday in the Port Hope tournarnent. Tennant Fuels A toms Fathers Vs Sons Monday March lst. Orono travellcd to Orneree for the first game in best of three playoffs. Ornemee won 3-1. Scorîng for Orono Brian Goodwin with assists going to Ted Gaudet and Todd Gray. This was a first class hockey garne with our boys corning within a whisker of corning up with a win. Mike Goodmurphy playcd a'superb game in goal. Tuesday, March 2nd. Omernee was in town for the second and final playoff game. Ornemee came out fly- ing and the Orono tcam stayed with them for a while but could not keep up the pace over the whole game. Ornemce won the game &0. Good Luck Ornemee in your next series of playoffs and the rest of your season. Mike Goodrnurphy again played a strong garne for Orono in goal. Mikc has playcd super in goal for Orono and enough cannot be said for his play over the season. March 6th. Saturday. Orono played host to Whitby Pitt Steel in an ex- hibition garne with the visitors coming up the win- ners 4-1. The lone Orono goal was scored by Blaine Souch assisted by Anthony Webb. Sat. Mardi l3th. Orono will be going to Mindcn to take place in a -8 tcarn tournarnent. Tues. Mardi l6th. Should be an exciting even- ing for the fathers of the Atorn team as they take on their sons in a father-son game. The Mothers of the players will be watching to sec if the fathers play as well as they have been coaching their son over the winter. The balance of the hockey season wîll be made up of ex- hibition ganes and one more tournament in Bowrnanville on March 25th. Over the wînitcr season the hockey tearn has played very wcll and congratulations for a fine season. By the end of March when we wrap up the scason the tean shouid have played over 70 hockey games. The first period sawv Oronlo go ahcad 1-0 on ai goal by David Bailley unassisted1 after only 8 seconds into the garne on a shot fromn centre ice that escaped the Toros goalie. Althoug-h the local boys domninated the first period they could not put anyrnore behind the Toro's Goalie as hc settled dlown and came up with a very strong garne. The second period saw the Toros tic the gane at 1 -1 on a goal by Brad Carnegie only to have Orono corne right back and go ahead 2-1 on a picture perfect three way passing play with Darren Lewis set- ting up behind the net passing over to Brad Roberts who set up Kevin Murnford in the slot wAho bfasted it home. The third period saw the Toros corne on strong and go ahead 3-2 on goals by Brad Rushar am.: Brad Carnegie with his second of the garne only to sec Kevin Murnford corne up with his second of the night to tiecià at 3 3 as lie banged in a loose puck in, front of the net with assists going to Darren Lewis and Brad Roberts. With 4:25 lcft in the game the Toros struck again to go ahead 4-3 on a goal by Jason Hcellamn. Orono 5 Oshawa Red Wings4 On Thursday, March 4th. the Matthews and Fliii ms. .O.M.H.A, Peewccs were the visitors in an exhibition gamne againtst the Oshawa Mlinor Red Wings at the Orono Arena and came out 5-4 vic- tory in an excellent entertain- in g gamne with lots of wide open end to end action. The first period saw Orono jumnp ahead 2-0 on goals by Brad Roberts assisted by Dar- ren Lewis, then Darren Lewis (who has been% playing ex- cellent of late) assisted by Brent Hutton. The Red Wings did not pantic and with some excellent play came back with two of their own to tie the gamne at 2-2. Scoring the Oshawa goals were: Jirn Walerýowich on an excellent set up by Bruce Maxwell, then Jirn Walerowich return- ed the favour by setting up Bruce Maxwell to tie the garne at 2-2. Wîth 0:09 seconds left in the period Steven Lycett put the local boys ahead 3-2 with assists going to Stuart Irwin and Patrick Woods. The second period saw the Red Wings corne up with the only goal of the period by Alex Beach unassisted to tie the gamne at 3-3. 1The third period saw Brad Roberts tearn up again with Darren Lewis to put the local boys ahead 4-3. Then with 13:19 left Patrick Woods set up Scott McCullough in the shot who ripped it home to make it 5-3. The Red Wrings' came right back with 12:44 Ieft to mnake it 5-4 on a goal by Bruce Maxwell (his second of the gaine) assisted by Geoff Baird. Although both teams had numnerous scoring chances both goalies carne up with the big plays to end the garn Orono 5 and Oshawa 5. Orono 4 Bowmanville 4 On Sunday, March 7th. Tl,. Matthews and Hill O.M.H.A. Peewees travelled to Darlington for a return mnatch wvith the Minor Toros. As in thir two previous gamnes played this wcek against BowVrnanviile Toros and Oshawa Red Wings they again came out victors by the samne 5-4 score. The first period saw the local boys start out strong as they jurnped ahead for a quick 2-0 lead after only 3:42 of play. Kevin Munford made it 1-0 as he ripped one in from one Scott passed out by Darren Lewis. Kevin Hart- wig then made it 2-0 assisted by Steven Lycett and David Bailey. Before the period ended the Toros carne back with one off their own by Brad Carnegie to close the score to 2-1. The second period saw the Toros came on strong and go- ing ahead 3-2 on goals by Brad Carnegie and Britt Cole. Before the period end- cd Darren Lewis tied the game for Orono at 3-3 with assists going to Brad Roberts and. Kevin Murnford. -Tlie third, period saw the Toros take the lead again with Brad Carnegie corning up with the hat trick. With tirne running out the boys showed smre great determination &"d came up with a'Carbon Copy finish by scoring two goals in the last two minutes to take an cx- citing 5-4,win. Scott McCullough tied it at 4-4 with an unassisted effort on a beautiful shot frorn the shot. Then with 0: 19 seconds left on the dlock Brad Roberts tippcd one in on a shot frorn the point with assists going to Shawn Bailcy and David Bailey. Excellent efforts guys!
