Peewees hosted Ennismore 2 for the first gaine of the Tri-county south peewee finals. The win- ners of this series earn the right to play the Tri-county north champions. Orono dropped in the hole at the beginning of this gaine as En- nismore scored the first two goals to take a 2-0 lead. The I.O.O.F. Peewees showed their character however as they neyer gave up as they battled back with 3 goals by Robert Snoek f0 win the gaine 3-2. Jason Carlton cam~e up big again in goal for the homeside as he provided some superlative goaltending. Robert Snoek was the big shooter again with a hat trick. Assists went to Bilan Hill, Brian Souch, and Mike Lane. Orono now has a one game lead in the best of three series. On Sat. Marchl 3th. the 1...F. peewees travelled to Ennism-ore for the -second gaine of the series with a chance f0 wrap it up. Things started badly for Orono as Ennismore jumped into a 1-0 lead less than a minute into the gaine. This seemed to fire up the Orono teain as they exploded for 5 straight goals to take a 5-1 lead by the end of the second period. The I.O.O.F. peewees however feil into a familiar pattern as they sat back and allowed En- nismnore to close the score to 5-4. Orono got one back to open a 6-4 lead only to have Ennismore score again to make the score 6-5. Orono hung on for the win as they checked well and even had 3 breakaways only to miss ail of themn. Scoring for Orono were Brian Souch with 3 for the hat trick, Robert Snoek 2, and Rob Jerome. Assists went to Brian Hill 3, Robert Snoek 2, Chris Richards 2, Mike Lane 1. The teanis deserves hearty congratula- tions for winning the Tri- county South finals and are looking forward to playing in the tri-county overall chamn- p ionship. Let's give them our support. Peewees played host to the Oshawa Minor Bruinis and came out on the short endl of a 3-2 score. This was ani exciting game wth wide open end to end hockey and somne excellent goalten'ding at both ends. The first period saw the Bruins score the only goal of the perîod and go ahead 1-0 with only 0:41 seconds lefi in thle -period on a goal by Jeff Furey. In the second period both teains played agressive wide open hockey onfly f0 be turnIed' back turne and time aigain b-y excellent goalten- ding to end the second period still 1 -0 in favour of the Bruins. Excellent Effort Guys. Orono 2 Newcastle 1 On Tuesday, Match 9th. the Matthews and Hill Ins. O.M.H.A. Peewees travelled to Newcastle to play their arch rivals and in what was probably the local boys best team effort of the year came away with an exciting 2-1 vic- tory. The first period saw both teains go at it head to head with end to end non stop ac- tion. With 3:55 left in the period John Gregg put Newcastle ahead 1-0 assisted, by Fred Millson. In the second period again both teamns played exciting non stop agressive hockey and with 1:04 left in the peiJod Darren Lewis (super game Loui s) riffled one in froin the slot on a beautiful set up by Kevin Muinford and Derek Anderson with some great scoring effort. The third peiod was just as, fast and exciting as the first two with both teams throwing cautionto the wind trying to come up with the winners only to be turned back by some outstanding goaltending at both ends. With 1:06 left in the game Steven Lycett finally put in for Orono on a beautiful backhand shot assisted' by Kevin Hartwig and Darren Lewis wth some super se- cond effort to get the puck to Steve. Stutt Bantams clinch Warkworth playoff seies sw amp Bowmanville March 15 Orono 17 flowmian- ville "B" 3 Orono played host to the Bowrnanville "Bs" on Mon- day evening and did not show any mercy to goal tender Jamiee Rankin putting 17 goals by hum. Randy Tennant played nets for Orono as Geoff Green is stili recovering from a skiing accident that occured at the start of the playoffs. Scott Prescott Who could not do anything wrong against Bowmanville scored an incredible 9 goals and 2 assists. Also scoring for Orono were Paul Morton 1, Mike Hamel 2, Murray Den- nis 1, Ray Ripley 1, Paul Lane 2 and Derek Muinford 1 who wrapped up the scoring. Orono travelled to Minden for a first gaine at 11:00 a.m. playing a teain froin Ajax with Ajax outhustling the Orono teain for a 3 to 1 win. The local lads just could not get on track in this gaine. Todd Hutton scored the lonte Orono goal with assists going to Ted Gaudet and Todd Gray. Mike Goodniurphy again came up with a strong gaine in goal or the score might have been a lot higher. Gaine 2 -saw Orono play a te" ~jfrom Bowmanville. The Ororil players came out hustling in this gane getting the first goal at 6:06 of the first period by Ted Gaudet unassisted. Bo'wmanville playing a strong gaine got the next 3 goals. Bryan Page get- ting 2 and Jeremy Laird with one. Brian Goodwin then got Orono back in the gaine with an unassisted goal. Bowman- ville then went by 2 goals froin Bryan Page and Jeremy Snowden. Orono then got their final goal from Bilan Goodwin with assists going to Ted Gaudet and Todd Gray. Roughley OMHA Novice play.exhibition games On Wednesday, March lth. the Roughley Insurance Novice Team travelled to Omemee for the third game of playoffs with thein. Although the boys gave Omemee a good tough gaine for two periods they couldn't hold thein back in the third period. Goalie Shawn Hardy had held Omeince to just three goals after two periods while his teain in front of hum had scored two. <David Sheridan tied the gaine up early in the second after Omemee had scored the 'only first period goal with kevin Roberts and Jeff Hart- wig assisting on the play. Omemree went ahead again but Orono fought back. J.,B.Brachvogel tied it again snapping in goal on his side passed over by Jeff Devolin. Omemee got another before this period to take the gaine and the series wînning by a score of 7 to 2. On Friday night the L.N.H.L. Black Hawks were in town to do battle with the Insurance men. There was only three goals scored one -in each period. The first period saw the Bruins get the goal while Orono played well and Shawn -Hardy was hot be- ween the pipes for Oronto. The second peiod was also well played but Oshýawa got the goal to go up cy 'wo. Warkworth defeated Orono by a score of 4-3 in overtime. Guy Brachvogel, Stephen Murree, and Greg Vey scored the Orono goals. The assists went t0 Keith Vey, Ken Bailey, and Greg Vey. On Sat. Stutts Pharmacy Bantains travelled SYPOR TS DJutch Oven Tykes win Port Hope tournament The long awaited day March l3th. finally arrived for the Orono Dutch Oven Tykes to go to the Port Hope Tyke Hockey Tournainent. Orono played Newcastle in their first gaine. Newcastle took a 1-O lead haîf way --hrough the first period, but David Sinyr scored one minute later assisted by Timi Hallowell. In the second period Greg Hooper put Orono in front 2-1, assisted by Trevor Lomnax and John Buttigieg. Orono burst into a 3-1 lead when Scott Williamns passed the puck up te Christopher Yeo for the third goal. Newcastle stubbornly fought back to, ie the gaine forcing a five minute "sud- den death" overtime period with both teains removing their goaltenders. Tt sure was "sudden death- 15 seconds into the period, Trevor Lomax picked up a pass froin Greg Hooper and David Shmyr skated in over the blue line and fired a bullseye shot into the centre of the net to give Orono a 4-3 victory. Congratulations to the Newcastle teain for going on to win the "B" champion- shîp. Orono's second gaine was against a young Port Hope tyke teani. Our boys proved to be too strong as they scored 12 unanswered goals. Scoring for Orono were: David Shinyr with 5 goals, Greg -Hooper with 3 and single goals by Brent Gates, Tiin Hallowell, David Paynton-Stewart and Christopher Yeo. Assists went to Ryan Marsanis, Jean-, Paul Tousignant, Scott Hall, Trevor Lomax, Scott Williams and Sean McKen- zie. This gaine put Orono in the finals. Heading into the Chain- pionship gaine the team wý1s really excited. Excellent goaltending by Stephen Stadelmann and Brent Gates in the first game and more good goaltending by Stephen and Jarret Prescott in the se- to Warkworth for the fourth gaine of ',the Quarter finals. Orono Won the game by a score of 3-0 and clinched the series. The Orono goal scorers were Greg Vey, Paul Henry, and Stephen Murree. Guy Brachvogel, Greg Vey and Stephen- Murree picked up assists. The Stutts Phar- macy Bantains received a solid teain effort to clinch the Quarter finals series.
