'New members for board of education Three newN members, from the Town of Newcastle, will sit on the No)rthumberland and Newcastle Board of Education as a resuit of the elections held on Monday. On. the other hand thiree in- cumnbent members returu to office. In Ward Three wl ere seven candidates were seeking elec- tion to the Board William Carman and Bob Willsher were the successful can- didates. Ail candidates ini the runin- ing ran aggressive campaignts with a lot of door-knocking and travelling of the Ward. It was a good siate for the, elec- torate. Williamn Carmian, Orono, whlo rcturnis to begin is twenty-third year as a trustee topped the pols witbh 1134 votes. Bob Wîllsher, Newcas- tle, a newcomner to the Board, was also elected for one of the two positions witb a total vote of 908. Other taflies in Ward Tbre were; Lorriane Lover 858, Janet Pollitt 662, Mary Clarke 612, Shirley Brown 543 and Bill Montgomery 398. George Cameron, who soughit the regional seat on the Town of Newcastle coun- cil, held a positiont on the board for the past two years. In Ward One, Darlington, the two incumbents were returnied, Sid Worden 1726, AI. Werry 1537. Milt Dakin polled 741 with Worboy poil- ing 1449. Ward Two, Bowmanville, has provided two neW memrbers to the Board and in so doing defeated an incumn- bent, Mike Siocombe. Hal McKnight topped the polis i 'n Bowmarivîlle for the Board of education with 1816 votes closely followed by Donna Fairey with 1849 votes. NvI. Slocombe polled 1627 with Joe Mcllroy polling 1283. Partner tops poils Inu hydro Harvey Partner again headed tbe poils for tbe Newcastle Hydro Electric Commission as be did in the election in 1980. He was again followed closely by Bob Stevens of 'Bowmaniville. During the past two years Partner has beld the position of chairmnan of tbe commis- sion witb Bob Stevens vice- cbairman. One new memnber cornes to tbe commission as a resuit of the election on Monday nigbt. Bill Morrison, a former member and chair- election mari of the Bowmanville P.U.C. will now sit on tbe Newcastle commission. Irwin Hamiilton was also re-elected to the comnission for thfe tbree year terni. Wilbur Blackburn, a sittîng, member of tbe commission, was defeated by 106 votes. Blackburn resides in Haydon. Vote tally for tbe three wards: Blackburn 5049, Hamilton 5397, Irv. Mc- Cullough 3868, Bill Morrison 5143, Partner 5631 and Stevens 5492. Five out of seven return to council Five out of seven sitting mnembers of the Town of Newcastle council have been returned to office for the niext three years. Mayor Rickard will con- tinue to head coundcil along with the return of Councs. Cowmian, Hamnre, Hubbard and Taylor. Keitb Barr, a former member of council returns representing local council from- Ward Three with Ivan Hobbs, also a former member of council, represen- ting Bowmnanville at the local council level. Counc. Ted Woodyard lost out to Keith Barr in Ward Three. Councs. Cowman, Hamre and Hubbard now ail biold regional counicil seats witlh Hubbard defeating the in- cubem., MaurceProuin the Bowmanville Ward. Counc. Cowmnan beld her edge througbout posting of the returns defeating ber closest rival, Graham Dallas,' 1343 votes to 1219. Jasper Holliday polled 1041. Counc. Hamre polled the largest majority in the edec- tion, other than the mayor, whien sbe defeated George Cameron by 1423 votes. The first results were evidence of a win for Hamnre. Counc. Hubbard, who won the regional seat out of Bowmanville, was in a close contest with Maurice Prout and Merv Kelly. It was flot until late results were posted that Hubbard went abead. Both Prout and Kelly had held the edge on dif ferent oc- casions during tbe night. Hubbard polled 1264, Kelly 1146, Prout 1053 and Hooper 960. In local counicil Counc. Bruce Taylor was an easy winner in Ward One with 2079 votes comnpared to 1112 for Hynes and 298 for Weston. Taylor returns to tbe seat he held in the last coun- cil. Ivan Hobbs and Don Allin ran a close battle with Hlobbs edghng «out Mlin, 1253 to 1135. In Ward Tbree Keitb Barr held bis edge over incumbent Ted Woodyard witb final resuits, Barr 1751, Woodyard 1400. In the Mayorality race in- cumbent Garnet Rickard took a comfortable Iead tbrougbout tbe posting of results and bolds a 1445 plurality over bis',closest con- tender, H4arry Wa\Ie. Everyone Welcomne! .IUVENILE TEAM ON THE ICE The Orono amnateur Atbletic association bas iced a local Juvenile O.M.H.A. hockey team this year wbicb plays their home games in Orono every Tuesday evening commencing at 8:30 p.m. The local Juveniles play in a league witb Lindsay, Trenton, Cobourg, Ops, Manvers, Newcastle and Omemee.
