For more information calI 723-3151. ARCADES FIGHTING BACK An Oshawa By-Law, pass- ed in 1977, is to be contested by an Oshawa Arcade owner at a municipal board hearing on Dec.'l6th. Terry Giles, of the city clerk's department says the by-law had intended to keep arcades away from schools and residential areas. In the by-law, it states an establishment of such sort must limit its hours and loca- tions of Arcades. GIRL GUIDES, RE-UNION On May 1, 1983, a Girl Guide Re-Union is planncd for the Village of Newcastle's Guides. Guides date back to 1957 in Newcastle. Ail former members have been traced through friends. The first leader, Kaye Qwinney, is 'heading the re- union committee. TheRe-union is to be held at Newcastle Communîty Hall. As time passed, an idea formed in the postmans mind. Sup- pose that every Christmai let- ter and parcel carried an extra stamp, and that the money from these tens of thousands of stamps went to help unfor- tunate children, many crippl- ed with diseases like tuber- culosis. Einar Holboeil's idea was successful in his native Den- mark, and in 1907 the Christmas Seal Camfpaign began in North America, specifically to help people af- flicated with TB. Largely due to continuing public support tuberculosis is no, longer a major health problemn in North America., But Christmas Seals remain a part of our Christmas tradition.
