Last week they Iost a key match against the arch rivaIs Omemee 2-0. In doing so tbey relinquished first- place to Omemee. However on Tuesday they got tbeir revenge l'y tbrasbing the Omemee squad 6-1 on Omemee's own rink. The Fuelers regained first place with a super teain effort. From the opening faceoff they put on tremendous pressure and neyer let up the whole gaine. Brent Gates opened the scoring ia the Ist period when he combined witb Jason Brachvogel and Bradley Minnis to, beat the Omemee goalie witb a bard low wrist shot. Just 1IV½ minutes later Cameron Esler flicked a bigb backhand shot into the top corner to put the fired up Fuelers abead 2-0. Scott McAllister did the bull work to gain the assist. Omeince closed the margin ta 2-1 when tbey scored the oniy goal of the 2nd period. Orono 1 - Manvers O On Friday nigbt the Fuelers travelled ta Manvers ta play a much improved teami. This proved to be a hard fougbt match witb Manvers' strong forecbecking bottling us up. Aithough David Sheridan, Scott McAllister and Brent Gates ail managed clear cut breakaways, they were unabie to beat a sharp Manvers' goalie. .Shawn Hardy was equally impressive witb several key saves. However midway into the 2nd period, Dustin Reid stripped the defensemnan of tbe puck and broke clear. Dusty made no mistakes, blasting a bigh wrist shot that bit tbe top corner, stick side. Early into the 3rd period witb the score -0, Jin Part- ner stickbandied througb the entire Manvers team, scooped around the net and slid tbe puck under the goalie. The puck appeared ta be at least 6" over the goal lime by everyone except the refèee and the goal was disailowed. The pay was disputed and the final score remained 1-0 Orono. The Fuclers earned the vic- tory witb a solid effort against a fired up Manvers squad. Ryan Rock piayed a strong gaine for Orono. Orono 4 - Ops Township 2, On Saturday nigbt the Fuelers bosted Oips and sent tbem bome witb a 4-2 defeat. Ops are another team wbich bas gained momentum as the season nears its end. Brent Gates struck quickly wben be tipped ini Jason Brachvogel's shot ta put the Fuelers ahead at the 10 se- cond mark of the Ist period. At the 4:16,mark Jim Partner fired a bard shot from the point wbicb fooled tbe Manvers' goalie. Caineron Esier and Kevin Roy set Jim up for this goal. Ops fought back in the se- cond- period witb 2 quick goals to even the game at 2-2. David Sheridan put the Fuelers ahead wben he bang- ed in Kevin Roy's rebound. David almost, scored bis 2nd of the gaine at the start of the 3rd period wben he fired a biistering shot wbicb rang botb goal, posts and came out. The Fuelers seemed ta be bitting their stride again but are a team wbicb needs ta work bard, because tbey have no real superstars, just a weii- balanced squad. The Orono boy s had their bands ful througbout the game. Jeff Darrach put Newcastle out in front haif way through the first period. Jamie Bail got Orono on the scoreboard a couple of minutes later assisted l'y Scott Hartwig. Orono dominated the scor- ing in the second period. Greg Hooper scored assisted by Jeff Devolin and Kevin Roy ta start the period. Scott Williams banged in a goal mouth pass from Sean McKenzie to make it 3-1. Kevin Roy rounded out the second period scoring, assisted by Greg Hooper. Newcastle fought back in the third period with goals l'y Jeff Pearce and John Whit- taker but Orono was not finisbed as Andrew Taylor scored Orono's fiftb goal assisted by Scott Williamns and Kevin Roy. Scott Hall, in goal for Orono, had bis bands ful many times but stopped a lot of tougb shots. Friday nigbt Orono played a league gaine against En- nismore's Green teamn. Orono bad a four win, one loss record in the previous league gaines witb this team. The action was almost equal at eacb end but En- nismore got on the scoreboard with 2:43 Ieft in tbe first period. Only eight seconds later Jamnie BalI tied it up on a fine solo effort. Halfway througb tbc se- cond period Kevin Roy pass- ed the puck to Jamie Bal wbo scored putting Orono up 2-1. Ennismore came back ta tie the gaine with 1:53 re- maining in the gaine. The ac- tion irn the third period was fast and furious. Wingers Shane Gylytuik and Jarret Prescott tried very bard as did otbers like Mharte Joncs, Cbad Vandam, Chris Simp- son and Sean W;inning. It looked like the game would end ini a tic but witb 1:46 left inD the game Ennismnore managed ta take the lead. Orono buzzed araund the op- position goal but could not bit the mark.
