Orono Novice Hockey (Continued from page 4) Players but they went into the game with the attitude of defeat. Saturday evening was a repeat performance of the, morning gaine. Again the at- titude of defeat was there and we went down the tubes 9-1. The Oshawa L.N.H.L. Cana- dians were out for another exhibition garue. it really is sometbing ta, see our guys travelling so many More mùiles an the ice when a littie pass- lng would save a lot. Again the rebounds were picked up and Stephen Shetier, although be tried bis best, our defense was flot there wben it was needed. Our lone goal was scored at 5:51 by No. 7 Stephen Stadelmann, assisted by No. 17 Tim Hallowell and No. 15 Brandon Ovenden. We picked up 4 minutes for tripping against Michael Do- ty in the gaine. Michael: Remember your stick is sup- posed to hit the puck flot get tangled in their skates. Besides that we need you a)n the ice flot in the box. Sunday, January 22nd, was our league gaine in Manvers. It was one of the best gaines so far thîs season. Everything seemed to fail in- ta Place. The boys came out winners by a score of 3-1. We actually managed to get through the gaine with no penalties, to ither teain. Parents were sa proud of the, way the boys played that it was bard to talk of anything else. One father was heard to mention that it was such along time for this win ta come and that the boys played superbly. He didn't know how ta act as -a wînner!! Our three goals came, again in the last period when at 59 seconds, Jean-Paul Tousignant, assisted by Chris Yeo, put it past the Manvers' goalie. Again at 2:25 Stephen. Shetler, assisted by Cam Toinkins and Adamn Wallace, We bad Our second goal. At 8:28 Paul Flintoff, assisted by Neil Halnes winged their way dlown the ice and made the final score 3-I.', Our goalie John Buttigeig did a superb job of defending the net. Commendations go to Jay Hansen, Neil Haines, Mike Doty and Brandon Ovendeni for doing a great job on defense. A word to Adamn Wallace and Jeff Wilson, our first year boys. You both are do- ing a great job. Dig a little harder, play your position well and keep up the good work, For you two as first year boys your improvement is 100% froin the first of the year. Good going. To all members of the teain - just a little something for you. It bas corne to the atten- tion of ali parents that the at- titude you boys have at the end of a gaine that bas been lost is not in keeping with the rules of good sportsmanship. You boys cannot blame any ane fella for losing the gaine. You play as a team and you lose and win as a teani. It is not fair to hog the puck and deliberately fight out on 'the ice over who bas it, nor is it at aIl in keeping with the rules of sportsmanship to sit on the bench or in the dressing room and cry over who didn't do what right. AI] of you had better take a good look at yourselves for your own mis takes before blaming so- meone else. You fellas are there for two reasons - the maln cone is to learn sport- smanship and second is to learn ta play hockey. Pay a lot more attention at prac- tices, don't fool around out there. If you want to be wîn- ners pay more attention and learn. Play as a team. Ojrono-t ykes I1.overpower their Newcastle opponents The teamn visited Newcastle for the second tire this year and came away with another victory, 6-1 this turne. The team wasn't skating too well and when Mark Foster took a tripping penalty at the j minute mark, things didn't look good. However,- the boys came awake at this Point and almost scored two or three goals while playing short. Finally Daryl Reid scored on a quick shot on a passout from Michael Landers. Shortly after, Michael Dreslinski scored-on a breakaway, set up by Henry Kaldeway and Brandon Meadows. Newcastle pressed well in the second period but STEVEN Sargent held them off until 10:10 when Jasogn Bosak scored on a shot from the blue line that bit a defender in front of goal. As if to make up, Orono started to turn on the power and two quick goals by Michael and Daryl, both for their second of the day, put the game out of Newcastle's reach. Mark Foster, Greg Knox, Jainie Shetler and Drew Hansen provided tbe assists. Daryl opened up the third period with bis third goal - another bat trick for No. 4! - assîsted by Andrew Burton and Jason Hill. The final goal came in the last minute as Henry Kaldeway beld off a couple of defenders after be- îng set up by Michael Landers and popped one past the Newcastle goalie.
