"Funds fromn the Founda- tion do not pay for our hospitat's, day to, day cost," said Cowan, "but rather for equipment to provide Memorial with the newest state of the art technology. We are committed to main- taining and improving Memorial's high standards in the community and mionies directed to the Foundation enable us to maintain this ob- jective. Having diagnostic equipment like thîs scanner mieans patients no longer have to travel to Oshavva or Torontr'. The close proximity of such modern, up-to-date equipment meanis we can check for internat damage after an accident, for exam- pIe,"- Cowan noted.* "Because of our proximity to the 401, our hospital handles more than well over the average number of emiergen- cies than any other Ontario hospital of its size." Ultrasound machines can also be used to assess the status of a.fetus in order to see if it is developing normal- ly, find an internal problem that may exist in the spleen, liver, gaîl bladder, pancreas or even weaknesses in major Does someone in your family have Asthmna?
