During the pre-game pep talk coach Russ Major had to wake some of the players up 10 gel thei r attention. During the Ist period and part of the 2nd they were very sluggish and seemced to be out for just a leîsurely skate. Ops took advantage and gained a 1-O lead with only Shawn Hardy's sharp goaltending keeping the score down. However, Jason Brachvogel decided to wake the boys up when he stole the puck at centre and flew past the defense to gain a clear-cut breakaway. JB tried to deke the goalie but lost control of the puck, however, hie kept his balance wheeled around and backhanded the puck in- t0 the corner of the net. A great second effort! This goal seemied to ignite the Fuelers and just Il seconds later Scott McAllister came flying down the wing after reciving a nice> pass from Jeff "Gr-annyý" Hartwig and unleashed a low wrist shot wvhich caught thé inside corner. Howvever, by Ibis timei the Fuelers were really f-lying. Dustin Reid intercepted an errant pass and relayed the puck uip to Craig Neîs. Orono J - Millbrook 0 On Wedniesday, Feb. 1, Millbrook reurned 10 Orono and were sent packing by a 3-0 counit. Millbrook played a much stronger game and the Fuelers really had 10 play 10 earn the victory. Shawn Har- dy earned his 9th shutout of the season with some splend- ed goaltending. It was late imb the lst period before Orono were able 10 beat an equally tough Millbrook netminder. Jeff Hartwig was the marksman when he lifted a high backhand shot which caught the upper corner. This goal came afler a mad seramble in front of the Millbrook goal, after tremendous pressure. Jason Brachvogel and David Sheridan combined to earn assisîs on the play. Midway through the Zjid period Millbrook drew a penalty and Bradley Minnis scored with a hard low wrist shot between the goalie's pads. Jarret Prescott in the Orono goal earned the shut- out by makingl a lot of good savjes. The Orono attackers, however, were also lunable 10 score on the Lindsay goalkeeper. Final score was a face-off and passing 10 Bradley. Score 2-O Orono. Dustin Reid put the icing on the cake when Jason Brachvogel fired a shot f'rom he point, which Dustin redirected mb theicfar corner. Orono kept hiustling and it paid off wvith only 59 seconids left to play in the period as Scott Williams put the puck in the net, assisted by Andrew Taylor and Sean McKenzie. In the second period Orono went ahead 3-1 when. Scott Williams baniged in a rebound fromn a hard shot from Sean McKenizie. Seconds later Ennismore njar- rowed the score to 3-2, For- wards Shane Gylyuik, Jamie BaIl and Chris Simpson kept up the pressure and it paid off, as Orono's Kevin Roy foiind flhe mark wýith 2:33 left in thec second peid. Jeff Devolin and def'ensemnan Shane Jonies assisted oni the goal whiclî gave Orono) a 4-2 lead. .Orono dominated [the thirdi period scoring three more goals white Jarret Prescott stopped everything that En- nismore shot -a! him. Defenseman Chad Van Dam, Sean Winning, Scott Hartwig and Shane Jones made il very difficult for Ennismore 10 gel any shots at Jarret'. Kevin Roy scored Orono's fitth goal, assisted by Greg Hooper and Scott Hall. An- drew Taylor found the mark with 4:34 remaining in the game,, assisted by Sean McKenzie and Sco tt Williams. Two minutes later Kevin Roy notched his third goal of the game when he banged in a super pass from Greg Hooper. Jeff Devolin also assisted on the play. Final score Orono 7 - En- nismore 2. The win gave Orono a total of 11 victories, 4 ties and 3 loses which was good enough 10o clinch fîrst place and the ail important extra home game in the play-offs which starf this Friday in Orono at 7:15 p.mi.
