'It is not enough that Cureatz tells Newcastle homeowners to appeal their assessment notices, he should bc workin~g to change provin- cial governmnent t,axation policies which are the direct cause of this problem." "Although Newcastle council must take immediate blame by voting for the hîgher 1980 assessmnent rates, the provincial governmnent, of which Cureatz is a member, must bear the ultimate responsibility because of its approach to property taxes." "Granted, there probably was a need to adjust the 1975 aSsessment rates, but such a drastic jump is totally unfair. Taxes f'or some people will in- crease $600 to $800. That is definitely too great anl in- crease for the average homeowner." "It is time the provincial government re-examined and changed it methods of pro- perty assessment and time for Sam Cureatz to cal on the goverinent to make these changes."- -This is too important an issue for Silent Samn to ig- nore.
