Tedford aiso points out (Continued page 2) The Town of Newcastle has granted a request submnit- ted by the Orono Showcase Co-operative in that the old Armnouries building in Orono not be placed for sale uintil Decemnber 31, 1985. The Orono Showcase Co- operative with 35 associate miembers and 20 artisans fromn the area operate a retail outlet in the north part of the buiilding. The operation, a co- operative of artisans, started in Septembher of 1983 and t hroughpl the Orono0 Buýinessmnen's Association hold a lease which expires as of December 31st, 1984. The Town recently discuiss- ed the disposaI of the proper- ty as being, excess to the Townr's operation. To this end the Mayor and Counre. Hamrre had met with the ex- ecutive of the Co-operative. The presentation on Monday Io council by the Co-op was a result of the disposai con- sideration and the meeting. Mrs. Maureen Remington spoke to council members on behalf of the Co-operative and said that although they supported the disposai of surplus buildings they did wish to have the opportunity to continue renting the building until the end of December 1985. Mrs. Rem- ington also requested the Co- op continue the rentai at the present rate untîl such lime as the Co-op hiad paid off their debt to the Towni for 1984 renovations. She said the Co- (op was paying off this debt ai a rate of $5(.0 a mnonthi. Mr.Remington spoke of the program at the Co- operative withi special week- end events and that, in faut, thie Co-op was an attraction that brings new faces to the Village and Town.
