In making the presentation Scoffield said Jim had been a mainstay of the music pro- gram during the past three years. Asks rezoning of Orono area lands The Newcastle General Purpose Committee has recommended to council that the Planning staff process and report on a rezoning ap- plication by Mrs. M. Tamblyn that would create four building lots in part of lot 26, concession 5 in the former Township of Clarke. The application affects 2.2 hectare of land north-east of the Village of Orono. Horticultural News and Activities The Iovely rains have already improved our town gardens and the street plants are really growing. Our representatives to the Hor- ticulture Convention have returned home full of en- thusiam and new ideas! At the Convention we were amazed to hear of the new. underground (l mile) garden- ing going on in Sudbury. Delicious tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce etc. This really requires innovative ideas with the lighting, water supplies etc. but it can be done. The Laurentian University is really quite attractive, beautifully landscaped grounds, trees etc. excellent meals, many worthwhile speakers and topics and course a special visit "Science North", a very thrilling experience. Our new district director, Isabelle Challice was installed along with four other new directors, at the Convention. Our next big project is of course our Annual Strawberry and Salad Sup- per, next Wednesday night June 27 in the Orono United Church. Challice. 4th Annual Wannan Family Pienic Over 100 descendants of James Wannan, who came to Canada in the 1830's, gathered in the Orono Park for the fourth annual Wan- nan picnic on Sunday, June 10, 1984. Those honoured included Lloyd Wannan, Toronto, as the oldest gentleman; Jessie Wannan, Oshawa, and Mary Reeve, Willowdale, as oldest ladies; Kara Dell (daughter of John and Kathy Dell, Pon- typool) as youngest family member. Lawrence Wannan, Kitchener, received a special prize for travelling the fur- thest distance. Children's games were organized by Dennis Wannan, Oshawa. The Wannan, Bellamy, Henderson and Hooey families were all represented. As always it was a delightful day to have family members reunited.
