Th ree ex- cellent crews 'have been chosen from the 180 ap- plicants who applied ta work on Agricrew this summier. An 'Agricrew' consists of four young and enthusiastic individuals who will be work- ing together from June 25th ta August l7th, 1984., The crews ail have farmi work ex- perience and are prep ared ta work an 8-hour day at a cost ta the farmier of only $90. Crews provide their own ed for 26-30 weeks ta make it financially stable but Aikens has the Centre booked for only 201/ weeks. AIl those bookings are tenative and are based'on the oid fees. Aikens states stability is a major factor and would like ta see the programme fees rise about five percent next year, putt ing off the task force's increase until 1985/86. Diane Hamre, Newcastle representative and Task Force Chairman, said, "If we can't chang e those-fees and keep the programme baoked, maybe the programme isn't as great as we think it 'is." Committ-ee members al agreed that the c hance was worth taking based on the overwhelming public support the Centre received. The Task Force also stated' that the future of the Farest Centre is based on obtaining maximum bookings at the in- creased rates. If this cati not be ac- complished, the autharity will be forced ta use municipal manies ta balance the budget.
