Campbell who has bank- ing, computer and small business experience in the community said he had four areas of deep concern, that of Leadership, Job Creation, Accountability and Ac- cessibility. He said he was a member of the liberal party because it was the party that "made things happen". The NDP, he said, "watch things hap- pen" while the conservatives wonder "what happened". Campbell stated he could only present himselfto a par- ty of change, a party respon- sive to current needs and a party of all the people. "I share this nomination with my family, (wife and 5 sons), my friends and with this group of liberal supporters", he said. Campbell stated his credentials included banking and finance, computer management, marketing, sales and small business. He said it was from this background that he intended to present new ideas for job creation during the period of the campaign. The candidate spoke of his conversations with John Turner, Liberal leader and the factof a rapport between himself and the Prime Minister. He spoke of the op- positions alternative of cons- tant conflict, day by day changes and the conflicts of Crosbie and Mulroney. She said there is a high salt content in the water which the Region would prefer to eliminate and she is pleased with the efforts now being made by the Region of Durham to find other sources. Council gave approval for the Orono groundwater in- vestigation at their regular meeting last week. The in- vestigation and report is ex- pected to cost no more than $30,000.0. The Region directed the works committee earlier this year to- proceed with the necessary arrangments for a groundwater- investigation and since that time a review has been made of previous groundwater studies under- taken in this area. The review of the previous reports suggests two potential areas hydrogeolically suitable for well development. This information has been discuss- ed with International Water Supply Limited who have worked in the Orono area in the past and have successfully completed groundwater tests and investigations for the Region in the Scugog and Ux- bridge areas. International Water Supp- ly have submitted a proposal to the Region whereby the Company is to perform the necessary work to drill test wells on mutually accepted sites. The Region will obtain options to purchase on the proposed sites.
