The display opens to the public 6th September at 10 a. m. E. May Martin Water- colours includes both land- scape' and stili lifes by the daughter of the welI-known Victorian painter, T.' Mower Martin <1838-1934). E. May Martin (1865-1967), studied under G.A. Reid and Mar- maduke Matthews at the Toronto School of Art. She travelled and painted through Ontario, Quebec. and elsewhere, and taught classes in her studio as well as at the Presbyterian Ladies College in Toronto until about 1910, After hier moîher's deathi in 1911, shie lîved in Toronto to devote herself to her family and her father. Martin ex- hibited tilI her mid-seventies, although her health began to fail in the 1950's. She died in Montreal. A Tribute to Elizabeth Lowes Young displays the talents of Elizabeth Lowes (1908-1984), wh o painted in Whitby and around Algonquin Park, as well as in Toronto. Young studied with Frederick Varley of the Group of Seven at the Doon School of Fine Arts, and with Carl Schaefer. By profession a doctor at Women's College Hospital, Toronto, Young found she needed to express herself through her paintings. The freshness and vitality of her -work reveals the eye and W.
