Fifty-five percent of the reported cases for the first four rnonths in 1984 have been con firmed. Orono Exotic Excitement is beginning to mount for Wolfram and Christine Klose of Orono Ex- otic. Cat World as they visualize the completion of their dream just north of the Village of Orono directly east of Highway 115 and 35 at the 'Taunton Road intersection. Not only will tigers, lions, cougars, jaguars and bobcats be on view i new outdoor enclosures currently uup4er construction but two hyenas, a pair of bears and foxca are already on site to take up new living quarters for the view- îng public. In all there are to be ten outdoor compounds set around the fourteen acre site each with a heated cave for the animiaIs and appointed with large limestone rocks of which a total of 150 tons have been distributed through the ten enclosures. In speaking with Mr. Klose he said he is now considering a petting zoo which could in- clude small deer, minature donkeys and possibly sheep and goats. He points to a two acre site which Would be used for such a featu*e at the Cat World. 1As one is toured around the complex.at this point a cage is being completed -for monkeys as well as one for racoons., Swans and geese make use of a large pond and Klose notes that the banks of the pond will be ablaze with the colour of wildflowers during the summer months. The seed is already sown for the summer bloom of 1985. Currently giving the site a natural look 150 Austrian Pine, Colorado Spruce and Silver Maple trees fourteen to sixteen feet in height are be- ing placed throughout the site. This operation is transforming the complex in- to a natural nature area. The trees are being provid- ed from another Orono operation, Evergreen Farms, owned by H. J. Sissons, south of Orono. The Kloses are also pro- viding a quiet picnic area for travellers who view the Cat World and here again it wvill feature the use of trees to provide the esthetics for the setting. A parking lot for fifty cars has already b een completed and a most interesting en- trance building lias been created usîng split cedar rails as roofing enhancement. AIl animais are enclosed in high-fence areas which are surrounded by a four foot chain-lînk fence to keep viewers a safe distance froin the enclosures.
