November 14,1984 SPORTS Roughley Novice team take Millbrook in 4-3 enc ounter Roughley Novice met Millbrook for the first time this season and won 4-3 in a real hold your breath game. Henry Kaldeway opened the scoring at 55 seconds unassisted from centre ice, to get his first goal of the season. Daryl Reid answered the cali twice in 45 seconds with Mark Foster assisting on the first goal and Philip Cunn- ingham assisting on the se- cond one. Millbrook came back and closed -out the period, down two. Millbrook was very ag- gressive the second period and tested Chad Maartense fine times, b ut only manag- cd to put two by him, proving the puck stops here. Excellent net minding Chad. Michael Landers scored the winning goal unassîsted in the second period, to finalize the scoring for the night. Shots on Orono - 16, shots on Millbrook - 13. Matthew Hili PeeWees on losing end of- two Iast week The Matthew Hill Peewý,ees of Orono hosted the Omcmriee team on Thurs. Nov. 8/84 and lost a 6-2 decision. This was a hard 'fough( match with Omemnce drawing I st blood wivth only I int remnaining in the Ist period. With Orono a man short, the visitor-s upped the vount to 2-0 at the 7:5 1 mark of the znd stanca. Orono fought back- gamnely with Jason Adey firing two quick goals late into the period. Jasoni's first goal was' set up by Jason Burnhamn and Jason Brachivogel. Mike ,Goodmurphy and Jason Bur- nham combined some stick passing to set up Jason's se- cond goal which was a hard wrist shot beating the Omiemee goalie on the stick side. The teamis fought even un- tii midway into the third pcriod when Orono took 3 consecutivepenalties. T his was Orono's undoing because the Omcemec boys counted 4 unanswcred goals to puit the gamne out of reach. The boys will have to bc a littie sharper and stay out of the penalty box when wc mreet themn next timne. OSHAWA NHL RED WINGS 4 - ORONO 2 On, Saturday afternoon, the MattheW Hill Peewees lost their second gamne in a row to, the Red Wing Peewees of Oshawa. This exhibition was a close match with good end to end action. Orono openedthe scoring midway through the lst period when Blaine Souch rcceiving a nice pass from Brian Rodd, circled behind the net and blasted a hard low wrist shot past a surprised Oshawa goalie. Early into the second period the Red Wings ticd the match with a goal of their own. Orono rcgaincd the lead when Craig Nemnis uncorked a hard wrist shot from just in- side t he blue lune.'th e isitors, goalie kicked out Craig's shot but David Sheridan fircd the rcbound and again the op-. positions goalie kickcd it out.With the goalie flat on his back, Jason Burnham flipped it int the top corner. Going into the 3rd period the Orono boys seemn to tire as the Red Wings scorcd 3 unanswercd goals to-win the match by a 4-2 tune. Shawn Hardy and Billy Todd sharcd the goaltcnding and came up with solid ef- forts. Jason Major, Brent Os- mond and Todd Gray played strong games for the Orono side. Orono jDrugMark seniors count 4 wins in first 5 games The Orono Shopper's Drug Mart Seniors started their hockey season on a positive note as they collected 4 wins in their first 5 games this year. They opened up the season in Little Britain on Oct. 21, with a 7-3 win over Little Bri- tain. On Oct. 28 Shopper's Drug Mart squeaked by the Raiders from Oshawa by a 3-2 score to raise their record to 2-O. On Nov. 4 Orono fac- cd Maclnitosh Chrysler and managed to come fromi behind to gain a 5-5 tic. On Sunday, Nov, il. Orono travelled tb Newcastle te take on Buster's Oldtimers in the mrigandI came-upfiat as Buster's rolletI over the Shop- per's Drug Mart team by a 10-2 score. Later that day however, Orono over- powercd Manver's OltI Boys by a 13-4 score as Dean Cox camne up with a 4 goal perfor- mance. The Orono Seniors would like to welcome shop- per's Drug Mart a.s their sponsor for the 84/85 scason. On Sunday, Nov. 17,. Orono will play a return mnatch against the Little Britain Oldtimers at 7:30 p.m. at the Arena. Tenilant Fuel Atoms account an undefeated record to date Thursday, November 8th the Orono Tennant Fuel Atoms took to the ice in Bewdley. Despite the fact that the Orono boys controîl- cd most of the play in the first period they only managed to score 1 goal. t came midway through the first period scorcd by Greg, Hooper and assisted by Trevor Lomax. In the second period Bewdlcy becamne a little more aggressive but Cameron- Esler and Robin Leth stop- ped ail the shots fired at the Orono goal. With onfly 40 seconds to play in the period Scott Williams gave Orono a 2-0 lead assisted by Brent Gaies. The third pcriod saw Orono regain control of the game with some excllent work by Dustin ReidI and Trevor Lomax, as thcy cach picked up unassisted goals. Fine plays by our defensîve crcw of Paul Flintoff, Jim Partner, BratI Minnis, Shane Joncs, Chad Vandam and Brent Gates hclped to kecp Bewdlc y ticd up in this own end. This allowcd our for- ward& t10really work .iard and kucp pressure on the Bewdley goalie. Congratula- tions for a good team effort and to Cameron and Robin for gtting their first shut- out. Final score. Orono 4 -Bewdley . The Tennant Fuel boys hosted Omcmce for- their usual Saturday night. game and gaveý Omcmcc a fcw lessons on passing and check- ing. The wholc tcam was rcady for this game as Omcmec had been vcry tough last ycar. The first pcriod had hardy. started whcn Tyler Adey pok- cd in a Dustin Reid pass at 1:21. Four minutes later Tyler seorcd his second goal a ssisted by Dustin and Ryan Rock 10 put Orono int a 2-O lead. The whole team was playing heads-up hockey and hustled afier the puck aIl the time. Ryan Rock scored assistcd by Dustin Reid and Tyler Acy made it 3-O with 3:07 left in the period&Thc fine of Stepheil Stade[mannl, Orono Tri-County Midget blanket Cannington by 3 to O The Tri-County Midgets won their third gamne of the season with a score of 3-0 over Cannington at Orono on Nov. 12/84. The action was fast with both teams trying hard to score. Blaine Bruton scored the only goal of the first pcriod unassisted. Both teams continued to play hard in the second period. Rodney Storsbergen put one in at 7:52 on a pass fromn Rob Jeromne and David Little, There were no more goals in the second period, although both teams tried hard to change that. The third period saw more of the same action, and re- maincd scorelcss until 2:51 whcn Rod Storesbergen put in his second goal of the gaime, assisted by Dav id Lit- tlc. It was a well deserved "lshut out" f'or goalie Ken Camieron, who made some excellent saves. Although there could have been fewer ,penalties, it was, on the, whole, a good team effort. If Orono continues to play together tis way we can look forward to many more wins over the rest of the season. On Friday, Nov. 9, Orono Tri-County Atoms hostcd Ennismore No. 2. Orono had "The Mighty Scott Hall" in net for the whole game. The final score wvas a tic of 3-3. Scot', Hal Lhad miany shots on him, and once he even had our own Brandon Overiden stîde into the g-oal crease and ma.ke ,aspectacularsae Our speedy Wingecr, Chris Yeo gave us ouir firsi goal, unassistcd at 9:42 of the se- cond period. The puck just secmed to slide undcrncath the Ennismnore goalie. Ennismorc came right back and took away our lead with a goal at 8:52 of the second period. On to the final period of the game, our boys werc play- ing hard and skating like litle troopers. At 4:09 defensie men Neil Haines and Bran- don Ovenden proved that passing the puck works. Brandon scored the marker, with Neil picking up the helper. Then at 3:53 Jay Hansen popped the puck mbt the net with hetp from Bran- don Ovenden. At 3:01 of the last period Ennismorefinally found where, to shoot the puck to get a goal on Scott Hall. The final tieing goal was scored at 1:59. Orono tricd hard to get another goal but thcy just didn't have cnough time to pull it out of the fire. Orono penalties werc serv- cd by.Neil Haines at 4:12 for hooking. Michael Doty serv- Trevor Lomax and Greg Hooper were rcally digging and il paid off with a Trevor Lomax goal at 8:25 assîsted by defenseman Paul Flintoff. Orono continued to dominate the play in the se- cond period and added one more goal scored by Ryan Rock with assists going to IJustin Reid and Tyler Adcy. Robin Leth and Cameron Esler were headed for another shutout when Omcmee scored at 5:15. The third perîod was fîllcd, with -a lot of hard work by Orono's wholc team but thcy were unable to increase their lead until the line of Scot McAllistcr, Seani McKenzie, Scott Williams, Brent Gates and Chad Vandam scored with 5 seconds to, play in the gamne. Scott Williams jpokcd in a nice, set-up pass from Scott McAllister and Chad Vandamý to give Orono the 6-1 victory. The tcam record this ycar so far is vcry impressive. Thcy have 4 wins, O Losses and I Tic. They have scored 22 goals and only allowcd 6. Good team work boys.
