About three weeks ago Bill Bunting- and I arrived at the Pond about mid morning and we did havethe use of Bill's n ew vi ewýing scope so we -were able to get a real view on ever\thing on the pond. On this, particular morning ihere had to be from two to three thousand ducks on the pond and with the exception of a couIple of' Scaup they were al Mallards withi a good smat- tering of' Black Ducks. WVe did -give the flocks a good going over ýwith the vîewýing scope to find that ai leasi o)ne oddity did exist be- ing a Mallard drake with its typical greeni head but with a white breasi patch and brown sides. It shoufld have been a reddish-brown brecast patch and white sides. But that was not ail for a white duck appeared in the scolie which we had casually mistaken with the naked eye to be a gull. It was the right size to be a Mallard, was in among the Mallards and did have that littie end cutr] on its tail which no other duick appears to have.. In trying to improrve Qur sight lune to the bird we did scare the whole flock into the air and the Albinio flew just like the rest of the ducks. The Albino we saw was an adult bird and we undersiand from the birders that it is somewhat of a rarity to see an adui Albino Mallard. They point out that young Albinos are open gamne for preditors due to the faci they are so conspicious. The birdlers, we have talked to have seen young Albinos but not aduilt Albinos.
