Trevor Lynax scoreti ûnassisted 9 seqontis, into the second period te> tic the gaine. Orono kept the pressure on but Adiam Rylance in the Newcastle net %topped everything fireti his way. Late in the second perioti Newcas- tic jumped to a 2-1 lead on a goal by Steve Stapieton assîsted by Jason, Rogers. Robin, Leth and Chad Van- dam shared the goaitendihg job for Orono stopping ail but two of the fourteen shots fired their way. Orono out- shot Newcastle 20-14 but the score finished up at Newcas- tle 2 - Orono 1. In three gamnes each teami has won 1 gamne and i gamne tied. Saturday night in Orono the local boys started to find the range as they handed the visiting Bowmnanvîlle Major Minor Toros a 6-1 defeat. Dustin Reidi scored Orono's first two goals. The first goal was assisted by Cameron Esler and Ryan Rock. The se- cond was unassisted. Orono took a 3-0 lead on a goal by Cameron Esier assisteti by Ryan Rock. The Toros scored witb 10 seconds re- maining in the lst period. Mark Dykstra was the marksman. Dustin Reid pick- ed up two more goals in the second perioti, the first one unassisted and the second one assisted by Sean McKen- zie. Stephen Stadelmann scored late in the second period assisted by Trevor Lomax. Neither team was able to score in the third period despite some fine plays and a lot of good ef- fort! Final score Toros 1 - Orono 6. Team Record W-15, T-2, L-2. Orono Tennant Fuel Atoms won the 'A' Cham- pionship in Bobcaygeon on Dec. 29th. The boys first game was against Lindsay who the local boys defeated 10-0. Chad Vandam and Robin Leth shared the goaltending duties in this game and the rest of the tour- namrent. They played excep- tionaily well in ahl the games especially the 2nd and 3rd gaines when they were really kept busy. In the first gamne Orono led 2-0 at the endi of the first period on two late period goals. Tyler Adey scoreti the first goal assisted by Dustin Reidi andi Scott Williams. Trevor Lomax got the second goal assisted by Stephen Stadelmann and Scott Williams. Orono added four more goals in the second period,' Sean McKenzie fromn Scott MýcAllister and Ryan Rock; Dustin Reid fromn Scott Williams; Tyler Adey from -Scott Williamns and Dustin Reid and the fourth goal was scored by Stephien Stadelmann unassisted. Orono added fouir more in the third period with strong defensive work from Paul Flintoff, Bradley Minais, Shane Jones, Brent Giates and Jim Partner. Goals came from Scott Williams assisted by Tyler and Dustin. The Peterborough "AIl Saints" team fought back with a goal late in the period and one ear- ly in the second to take the lead. With two minutes re- mnaining in the second period Sean McKenzie tied the game up with an assist from Dustin Reid. In the third period orono took the lead when jim Partner passed to Dustin Reid for the goal at 5:08 of the period. But "Ail Saints" scored to tie the gamne seven seconds later. Greg Hooper passed the puck up to Dustin Reid andi he fired a hard shot pass the "Ail Saints" goalie with only 1:40 left in the gamne. Orono held on for the 4-3 victory and advanced to the Championship gamfe against Peterborough's Miss Diana Atoms. The final gaine was also a super game with both teains showing a lot of hustle andi desire. Orono opened the scoring at 4:14 of the first perioti when Trevor Lomax. andi Greg Hooper passed to Stephen Stadelmann for the goal. Twenty two seconds later Peterborough tied the game and with 36 seconds to play in the perioti atdeti another goal to take the lead 2-1. Orono pressed bard in the second period with Dustin M-MH Insurance boys edged by Bewdley Bewdiey 7 - Orono 5 On Dec. 11/84, a strong teans from Bewdley came to town anti defeateti the Mat- thews anti Hill-boys by a 7-5 count. Tbis was a real lough contest which couiti have went ither way. Orono struck early in the game with tiefencemen Mike Gootimurphy firing homne an unassisted goal between the goalie's legs. Eariy into the second perioti Orono went ahead 2-0 when Totit Gray scored a power play goal. Todd fired a bard wrist shot to the glove side after David Sheritian trlq tith nir behindth ie net and passed it out to i odd. Jeff Hartwig earned an assist on the play with bis constant tiigging. iewdley retaliated with a marker of their own mitiway through the period. Jason Adey upped thse count to M- when he receiveti a nice pass- from BMairie SoucIs and fireti a low shot to catch the out- side corner. Blanc made a real nice play when he not on- ly took out bis man, but endi- ed up with the puck to gain a weil earneti assist. Not to be denieti, Bewtiiey camne back and popped in four straight unanswered goals to close Sil the perioti at 5-3 Bewtiley. Orono fought back eariy in tIse 3rd with Davidi Sheridan slapping in a biard shiot which caught the upper left hanti corner. This goal was set up by Todd Gray who receiveti a pretty pass from Brent Os- moni, stickhandled into the_ corner and passeti it out to Dave. Bewtiley then went aheati 6-4 after goalie Shawn Hardy matie some brilliant stops but was unable to stop a 3rd rebound. Again Orono came -back to close the margin to 6-5 with Kevin Roberts hitting the mark after some mice passing between Biaine Souch and- Cralg Nemis. Orono then pulledti teir goalie with less tban a minute to go but the visitors fireti the puck the, lengtb of the ice into the open net to sait the victory away. Thse Mattbews and HiM boys need not hang their beatis after this game becausc tbey gave a top notch effort against the lst place teain. Jason Major, who has mastereti the poke check, played strongly. Orono 5 - Manvers 2 Manvers werc tbe opposi- tion on Tuesday evening at thse Orono Mrena and werc sent home with a 5-2 defeat. The Matthews -and Mi boys meant business in this game with Davidi "Shifty" Sheridan scoring on the laS shift of thse game. Dav's hard iow wrist shot came after some brilliant 3-way passing by Blàine Souch, Brian Rodd anti David. The cheering hartily stop- peti when Brian Rodd flew over the blueine and slapped Blaine Souch's rebound icito the lower ieft hand corner. Manvers' then surprised everyone when they countcd a short handed goal to start the 2nd stanca. 2-1 Orono.
