Last week these two teams squared off with a 2-2 deadlock and did the samne in this gamne only to a 1-1 tune. This was a typical low scoring battle between two evenly matched squads with tough goaltending being the order of the day. The lst two periods went scoreless with good end to end action. Todd Gray broke the ice when he finally rifled in a hard wrîst shot which eluded the Newcastle goalie early in- to the third period. Jason Adey set up the play when he received a nice pass from David Sheridan, went deep into the corner and relayed a picture pass to Todd who put it away. Newcastle fought baclc and tied up the match with just 3 minutes remnain- ing. Both teams fought it out. but couldn't put it pass sharp goalies. Jason Adey continues to improve after beng shifted to the defence a few weeks ago.. Brent Osmond and Jason Major gave the goaltenders lots of protectionv to help the cause. ORONO 3 - OSHAWA 2 On February 2lst, the Oshawa Little N.H.L. Black SHawks were the visitors and were sent home with a 3-2 defeat. This was a fast skating exhibition match with lots of action. David Sheridan opened the lst period just seconds after the puck was dropped when he circled behind the net and snuck it into the short side hefore the Oshawa goalie had time to reach. Todd Gray and Jason Burnhamn earned the assists on this play. The second period went scoreless. At the 10:56 mark of the 3rd stanza,' Blaine Souch and Jason -Jumbo Burger" Brachvogel combined some stick passing to put Jeff Hart- wig into the clear. The dying minutes of the gamne got pretty hectic when Oshawa made it a 2-1 gamne with a goal of their own. With just 23 seconds remain- ing, Oshawa pulled their goalie only to have Blaine Souch fire in a long wrist shot to put the Orono boys ahead by a 3-1 count. The Black Hawks fought back to make lit 3-2 with just 1l seconds left and that's how it ended. Brian Rodd and Mike Goodmurphy were stan- douts in the game for the Matthews and Hill gang. David Sheridan picked up his 3rd point of the game when he head manned a perfect pass to Jason to put him into the clear. Not to be denied, Bewdley put on tremendous pressure late into the game and miade it 3-2 at the 2.58 mark. Great forechecking and some first rate goaltending from Orono preserved the win however. When the final buzzer sounded, the Mat- thew's and Hill boys swarm- ed their goaltenders and one might have thought they hiad just beat the Edmonton Oilers for the Stanley Cup.
