At this point it looked ike the Matthews and Hills boys were beat and a 3rd game would be necessary back at Orono. However, Orono dug down deep and fought back with a vengeance. Todd Gray made it a 3-2 game with a hard wrist shot after being set up by Blaine Souch-- and Jason Major. AJAX 5 - ORONO 3 After last weeks thriller Orono came up a little fiat against a good passing team from Ajax. The local lads just didn't have their minds on hockey and allowed the fast skating team too much space. David "Shifty" Sheridan was up to his old tricks when he opened the scoring at the 5:16 mark of the lst period. No RC funding plan yet approved SAlthoughi the deadline has passed for submissions of plans to extend provincial government funding to Roman Catholic high schools this September, no plan has yet been approved. A provincial commission was to have submitted recom- mendations to the province last Wednesday as to those Roman Catholic schools who were ready to implement the controversial policy this year. SAM CUREATZ Tom Cowan Chairman of, the Durham Region District Health Council announced last night approval by Coun- cil for a Region wide Place- ment Coordination Service for Long Termi Care. Following four years of in- tense discussion amongst the Region's seven hospitals, thirteen nuring homes and three homes for the aged, a proposaI has been developed to provide assistance to these institutions, physîcians and the general public in finding appropriate long terni place- ment for the elderly and in- firm. The $100,000 proposai recommended to the Ministry of Health for funding ap- proval will be developed on a staged basis for a trial period of two years. An advisory committee with representa- tion from the institutions, community services and the District Health Council will develop policies for the ser- vice and report to the District Health Council through its Standing Committee on Long Terni Care. Administrative support and managemient will be provided by the Oshawa General Hospital. -We are delighted by the 'comniunity's acceptance of the proposai" said Mr. Cowan 'especiatly the sup- port from the Regional Government,' the hospital boards and nursing homes. in the Region" he continued. "Over the years, Council has seen a lot of evidence of pa- tients waiting for placement in nursing homes occupying much more expansive hospital beds" said Mr- Cowan. "We hope that this new service will provide us with an opportunity to coor- dînate more appropriate placement of patients. and at the same time generate a much improved information service to our seniors especially and their faiies in their search for suitable ac- commodation."- "In addition," he con- tinued, "lwe expect the ser- vice will generate much need- ed statistical data to, enable the Council to recommend more accurately on the need for additional long term serv- ices in the Region.
