Hýappy Fortieth to the twins, April 3Oth bas 418 clients Last I uesuay evenhiig Community Care and Comn- nilityv Involvement Volunlteer Program honoured the volunteers who during, the past, year have providJed ser- vices through thle two groups in the Town of NewNcastle to some 484 clients. u-omm1unity Ca re and CIVP operate a variety of .services in the commiunity withi the assistance of 258 volunteers ,vho flot only pro- vide transportation but also undertake visits, conjduýct telephone security checks, undertake yard work, er- rands, and assist with housecwork as weIl as organiz- ing foot cane programs and during the past year provided 3,614 mneals on wýheels. [he volunteers provided a total of 2,058 drives travelling a distance of 65,522 kilometers. In total volunteers provid- ed a total of 10,060 hours both in the Community Care office andi in providing actual service to the clients. During the past year Com- m un it y finvolvement Volunteer Program was in- stituted whereby a one-on- one service by trained counsellors is available and in this area Tom Smith was given an extra mention at the awards night for his service which has been on and beyond the usual help to a nubrrequesting help. Community Care also pro- vides financial service, mainly assistance at incomne tax time. Recognition pins were awarded to Deanna Barnes, Ted Barnes, Reita Clark, Fred Couch, Greta Down, Cathy Dudley, Carolyn Far- rowý, Lorraine Filiatrault, Joyce Gunn, Lamnoine H-odge, Arnold Lobb, Robby Robinson, Win Stender and Carolyni Van Dyke. As well thie organization necognizes the continued service of their regular volunteers. Vera Downey, Carolyn Farrow, Penny Fairbrother, Aileen Turner, Shirley Wat- son and Alyce Yeo, ail miembens of the 400 Club, were also recognized. The 400 Club are members who have reached the 400 mark in tasks and hours of service for Community Cane during 'the year. The Board Members of 'Community Care are: Sally Barie, Jane Crane, Peter Crane, Enid DeCoe, Greta Down, Judy Filler, Thelma Gilbank, Joyce Gunn, Roland Hopkins, Rose Lilley, Norman McConaghy, Gail Rickard, Joan Russell, Sheila Stiles, Marg Tippings, Aileen Turner. Gail Spence is co-ordinator of CIV? with Roxy Barnes co-ordinator of Community Care. Following the presentation of awards and recognitions last Tuesday, the meeting was entertained with musical numbers by "Sweet Charity". Refreshments were served. Name Durham student of year Graduation Commnittee, Pub Security Committee, and the Inter-Varsîty Christian Fellowship. At the Durham College Student Administrative Council Awards Banquet held recently, Inez AlIard, a first year Office Systems Ad- ministration student, was named Student of the Year. The Award was given for lnez's extensive involvemrent in student actixties. She was actively involved az a class -representative in Orientation and Winter Carnival, and is Chairperson for thre Gradua- tion Commnittee. The SAC Executive emphasized that linez was supportive of ail SAC activities, and in every case did -more than her shar-e of the work". This award is given to comn- mnemorate a former Air Transport Technology stu- dent who also demonstrated these abilities, and wvho was killed in a hang-glider acci- dent in 1980. Special recog-nition was also given staff mnembers for their assistance to the Student Administrative Couincil. Those recognized included Jean Harden, SAC Office Mlanager; Herb Kirkconnell, Director of Student Affairs; and Peggy Smart,*Secretary to the Director of Student Affairs.
