In the 1981 election Cureatz hiad a pflurality of 6200 over the NDP can- didate, Bruice McArihur who poiled ini at 8,648 compared to Cureaiz with 14,840. There were a total of' 56,534 elig-ible voters in Durhamn East for Thu.rsday's election and 32,867 cast their ballots in the election.
