MM 1 lýl, n 4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, June 5, 19M5 j Orono Squirts Soccer 1 win openinig Yet another soccer season is upon us and the Squirts 1 visited Tyrone, always a tough game, on May 24 for the first game. Tyrone got off to a quîck start and pressed in the open- ing minutes. The pressure paid off when an Orono defender handled the bail in the penalty box after a good save by Jason Lawrence. John Ford shot the baIl high into the corner to give the home teamn the lead. After this setback, the Orono mid- fielders started to take over. Jason Stubbs, Jarrod Easton & Lindsay Couch made some good plays to get the bail for- ward to Jonathan Burnham, Scott McDoniald and Krista Szymczak. Finally, our break came when a hiand bail oc- cured about 20 yards out. Andrew Burton fired a nice shot into the net. The second [yrone club game< :1alf produced more excite- ment, especially when Steven Sargent made a great save from a penalty shot. In- spired, we went rightuped and go-od inrerplay between Scott Borduni and Jamie Shetier let J amie tire a long shot past the goaie for the winnîng goal. Weli dlone, team!! The second gamne, scheduled at Orono on May 27 agai nst Bowmanville Cheetahs was cancelled because of heavy ran. The two Orono teams pac- ed each other on June 3. Orono Il had just the right numfber of players but Orono 1 only had nnine players because of Beavers. The game was evenly played as the flow moved up and down the field. Jeffrey Hughes had a good scoring chance in the first haif, but Jason Lawrence stopped him wth a last m.-inute tackle. Half time come and saw the game tied at zero.ý Midway through the se- cond haîf, Jeff Hughes made somne nice moves and shot a nice goal past the goalie. Orono Il didn't give up and finally got a goal on a shot from far out that bouinced awkwardly in front of the goalie and then sneaked over the line. Andrew Burton was the scorer after a nice pass fromn Scott Bordun. Scott Ransberry played a strong gamne on defence and was well supported by Stephan Cancelliere and Jason Hill in midfield. The next gamne is at Orono against Bowmanville Tigers on June 10.
