The Management f3oard of the Liberal Cabinet is not the only group of politicians that have been known to bend the meaning of words. Somte peo- pIe cynically claim that all politicians use evasive language to hide their goal from the people. That's far too extremne a view front my experience, however, 1 will agree that politicians and governments do often avoid the kind of direct language that would ensure that their point is clearîy understood. For example, have you ever noticed those advertisements put in the newspaper conicer- ning zoning changes? Usually these adve»isements use very specific legal language that thoroughly confuses the average voter. While the legal lanlguage is a necessary part of our systemi of governmnent, WOuIld it not help to add ant explanation in clear termns stating what is being propos- ed. People hiave a ight to know, what's going on1 and what's being down wýith thieir tax mioney. I believe ail lev els of go 0ver11nm e nt should use clearer language in their notices and advertisemrents to ensure t h at e ve ry o ne understands what they are be- ing told. Once people unders- tand u wat theirgov ernment is doing, their suspicion and cynicismn about the motives of politicians and public ser- vants should fait away. 1 amn pleased that the Y.W.C.
