SOME LOGICAL COM- PLAINTS Seeins like just yesterday it was only the beginning of August and here already are definite signs of old man winfer just ahead. If the f urn- ing of the leaves isn't already a sure sign, f hen how about t his, a whole passel of noisy honkers flew sfraight over the house the other mnorning on their way ta where? Alreadyý? Took the gang out hast week for some (lasf minute panic) clothes shopping. Discovered mosf of the cothes were picked over, and what the kids liked I couldn't or wouldn't afford whichever one it was. We wrestled our way through stacks of left over sneakers to find some pairs me and them agreed on. For a while it was open com- bat but mother usually wins at least at this age I still do. Militant? Perhaps! I still believe if's pure coincidence junior named his teddy Getfing back- ta the topic of clothes. I wonder whatever happened to just plain pants and a shirt. Going by the trends today, kids are either punky, funky or groovy. Their either vogue or Sally Ann Style. Materials are either loaded wif h zippers, or collars that extendaround the, neck ta the knees or to be really smashing yau wear recycled garbs that looked better the first time when fhey were new. But the p)rice tag, has sincc cscalafed. There's the no iran look, totally crinkled or the baggy freedom miovement look where you wvear sizes fourteen tâmes bigger donc up wif h anything. Whatever happened to leather shoes, replaced by those things that every kid sceems to be born wîf h nawadays--snieakers. Pramiise you speed, athletic abihity and afhletes foot. And the pr'ice is righf. Anywhere fromn $39.95 up, promises ta keep your kid on happy f rea ds fuI the sales burn ouf. The problemn lies in fhe fact that speakers become as addictive as cigarettes. The worîd's becoming invaded by sneakers. Old ones, new ones and inbetween ones, each and everyone carrying ifs own part icular brand of smelly feet. Sneakers the ads will tel you match with everythîng, shorts, bafhing suits, skirts and suits. Just mix and match, buy several pair in various colours and have happy feet the rest' of your life. Now we get ta the issue of socks. I'd like to find a pair fhat last langer than fthe first week of school wif haut blow- ing a hale in the end or in the heel' The samne applies fa the underwear worn by the young men. In one store, the waist- band an this particular brand follows the socks in a close match. I was éven 50 am- The Pines Report The grade seven classes at- fended a pantomime perfor- mance at Bowmanville High School on Wednesday, Oc- tober 2nd. It was a pro fes- sional performance by three Canadian actors. We really enjoyed "The Jungle"', "Rock Band" and "The Morning After The Nîght Before" pantomime skits. Students from The Pines, M. J. Hobbs Sr. Public and Bowmanville High School at- tended the presentation. Both Our gýil s cýool soc- ýcer teamn and boys school soc- cer team phayed their first gamnes this week. The girls played M. J. Hobbs oni Thiursday afternoon and were def'eated., On the same after- noon the boys aso played Hobbs and went down for a loss. On Wednesday, the girls played Bowmanville,,Sr. and won by the score of 2 - 0. The final plans are being made for-the grade 8 ftrip f0 Camp Tawingo. Yesterday, the studenf s signed with the graup they wishied ta shiare their cabins. Seven to eighit sf udent s share a cabin with a teacher or parent volunteer. Students must be reindied to bring clothing for warmi, cold and wet weather. If hias sniow- ed at Tawingo during oui grade 8 trip! We hope f0 donate $100.00 this year. person nominated for election to an office ta file a BONA FIDE nomination paper." lmproperly f ied nomination paperswilI have to be rejected. David W. No. A 0400, IMake Time To Meet If You Don't Car bitious ta try and remiove the defunct rtibber band and at- tach a newN one. Frugal, 1 cal it. Well it took longer ta remove the deadbeat one than il was worth my hours. Here for once there was a secure article. By the time I diddled around, this way and that, and had finally attached the new rubber appendage which imimediately shirred the waist in ta about five inch width, that parir of Fruit of the Looms ran me about six bucks. It was cheaper ta chuck if out and buy two new pair. Haircuts is another thing that gets under my skin. Every mother should be able ta take a haircufting course s0 that these youngsters wilh the Charlie Brown hairline woul dn't be subjected toaa whole five minutes in the chair cosfing a small fortune and often as flot looking like the lawnmower went beserk. Tha's when they t ellyou, f hat kids with blond hair always show any slight varia- tion in the cut, which hap- pens ta be the case in mny kids, blond hair and ail and always looking like I'd done a number on their sparse locks. WeIl, schools here, I for one amn glad. It costs an armn and a leg to ouf fit thos e kids for the year but the routine and the peac e during t hase five days really is something fa look forward to.
