tClarke High School Commencement Orono's lighting for Christmas The Orono Downtown Business Association met last Tuesday evening witfila good turnout of miembers and it was decided to hold a "Lightîng For Christmias" promotion con Thursday, Novemiber 28th. The Association is asking aIl businesses in Orono -to have- their Christmnas window decorations in place on thi' date and that ail lights to be turned on at the samne time in the late afternoon, Special features for thle week-end will also bc ani at- traction to shop in Orono. As well a program of Christmas songs will be presented in the Orono Town Hall. The Association are also to write the Region of Durham Public Waters requesting in- formation as to the availabili- ty of sufficient water fromn the new welI to allow somne residential development in the commnunity. Associated with development the group are also to write the Town of Newcastle Planning Depart- mient and Council asking that the Oronio Hamlet plan be completed and toý give sup- Port to further imited residential developmient in [lhe Village. The meeting authorized further correspondence with Durham Regional Police and the Town's By-law Enforce- ment office as to enforcemnent of parking regulations in the downtown section of the Village. It was pointed out that lettersi had been sent to both parties on September 12th but that no action had been taken and that the park- ing problemt in the downtown area was continuin-g. To consider repeal, of parking by-law for Storm sewers Mr. H. E. Milîson represen- ting close to ighty petitioners in the south end of the Village of Orono bas asked for a meeting wih the Town of Newcasble Director of Public Works, the Regional Commis- sioner of Works, twýo members of thie petitioners and the Mayor and niembers of coun- cil. The meeting is requested to discuss storm sewers, curb, gutters and paving of streets in the south end ,of the Village. In a letter atached H. E. Mil'ls-jn stated the, direct re- quest was for 'storm sewering, curbs and gutters and paving of Church Street South. However in a verbal re port Milîson said it made more senise to include aIl of the south area of the Village.
