No. A 1176 request The Town of Newcastle council on Monday gave their support to the Region of Durham Planning depart- ment and set aside a proposai by town planning staff which the_ Region dlaims is a duplication of the Regional Officiai plan which in fact supercedes anything in area which the Town might und4r- take. Mr. Kotseff of the Regional planning depart- ment said the regional pro- posai would streamiine pro- cedure and be less confusing for individuals. The issue which has developed between the two planning departments per- tained ta the form and con- tent of the Town's proposed Officiai plan relative to ian- duse designations. The Region contends this is already in the Regionai Of- ficiai plan and there is no need for a further such plani and that in fact the Regionai plan would supercede the Town's plan. Terry Edwards, director of planning for the Town said it was a mnatter of philosophy and feit that the Town shouid be dtermining land-use designations not the Region.
