The visitors drew 1lst blood at the 8:43 mark of the lst period. The Matthews & His boys evened the count, early in the 2nd stafiza when Blaine Souch found the mark after a mad scramble in front of the visitors goal. David Sheridan and Todd Grey earned the assists with some hard digg- ing. Just 3 minutes and 18 seconds later it was Blaine fir- ing his second goal to up the count to 2-1 Orono. David and Todd again assisted on the play. Not to be denied though Bewdley struck back and fired in 3 unqanswered goals to go ahead and win the match. The Orono boys played well for the lst 2 peiods but sagged in the 3rd to allow the win to slip away. Brent Osmond and Jason Major played strong games on defense for Orono. MANVER 6 - ORONO 5 On October 23rd the Mat- thews and Hill gang travelled to Manvers and again ran out of gas in the 3rd period to relinquish a, nice lead to a determined Manvers squad. *Orono jumped ahead in the Ist period with 3 unanswered goals. Todd Grey notched the lst one by sliding it under a sprawling Manvers goalie after David Sheridan fed him the pass from behind the net. Blaine Souch earned an assist with his constant forecheck- ing. Todd banged in. his se- cond goal after David kicked the puck to Blaine who slip- ped it over to Todd who in turn flipped it into the top corner. At the 52 second mark Brian Rodd stole the puck from a Manvers defenseman to go Ân unmolested to beat the home town goalies on the stick side. (3-0 Orono). Manvers made a gamne out of it in the 2id period with a goal of their ownr. Orono upped the count early in what proved to be a wild 3rd period. David Sheridan poked in Blaine Souch's rebound after some slick 2-way passing between the 2 players. At this point Orono for soute reason quit skating and allowed Manvers to score 3 quick goals to tie the match at 4-4. With just 1:58 remaining in the gamne Blaîne Souch, after a mad scramble in front of the net put Orono ahead 5-4. Todd Grey and defenseman Jason Adey combined to earn the assîst. At the 1:35 and 1:30 marks. Manvers pumped in 2 goals to stun the Matthews and Hill boys and leave their coaches shaking their heads. COBOURG 4 ORONO 2 Orono suffered their 3rd league game defeat in a row at the hands of a fired up Cobourg team. Although Orono lost, it certainly wasn't from lack of trying, The puck just wasn't bouncing for themn and the Cobourg goalie came up big to help his team to victory. The lst period was scoreless with Orono getting many chances but julSt couldn't find the mark. Cobourg finally openied up by scoring 2 goals in the 2nd and 2 goals in the 3rd period. (4-0 Cobourg) Orono finally caught fire late into the gamne when David Sheridan reliiyed a perfect pass to Todd Grey who went in alI alone and fired a hard wrist shot to the glove side which dented the mesh, Just seconds later it was Brent Osmond firing in a low slap shot from the point on a power play to make it a 4-2 game. Brian Rodd made some nice moves to set Brent up for this one. Orono kept tremendous pressure on in the last 5 mninutes but just couldn't catch up. After the game coach Russ Major congratulated the boys on a good effort and assured them that they were trying to hard not to start getting somte breaks'and win some gaines. Shawn Hardy 'and Billy Todd played tough between the pipes. 'Matt Stevenson played his strongest gamne of the year arfd is starting to look more comrfortable on the forward line afler playing defenise ail last year. ORONO SNAPS LOSING STREAK ORONO 4 - MILLBROOK 2 It took a few gaines but Orono finally clicked to win their lst league game of the year. Although they feil behind 1-0 early in the lst period they kept hustling and played like a team. Matt Stevenson opened the 2nd stanza when hie fired in a low wrist shot from Todd Grey's rebound. Brian Rodd set up -the play with some hard work in the corner. Matt put the home team ahead 2-1 when hie fired in a hard slap shot from just in- side the blue line. This goal was a result of some slick passing between MatI and Jason Adey. Orono really got rolling aI thîs point with David "Shif- ty" Sheridan tipping in Brent Osmond's low wrist shot from the corner. Brent made a smart move to set this one Up. Matt Stevenson earned his 3rd point of the game when irelayed il around the net to Brent. (3-0 Orono) Todd Grey upped the count to 4-1 when he flipped in a backhand shot over an outsîretched goalie, after a mad scramble in front of the Millbrook net. Millbrook scored the only goal in the 3rd period and Orono kept them at bay with some solid forechecking to earn the win. Between the pipes Shawn Hardy and Blly Todd cômbined to keep the score down for their team, Jason' Major who is a master at the poke check combined with Mike Good- murphy to form a strong defense. ORONO 5 - MILLBROOK 4 The Matthews & Hill boys played their best game of the year as a unit to earn this vic- tory at Millbrook. The Mllbrook team who were still smarting after Tues- day's loss came out hitting but it was Orono who drew lst blood at the 2:08 mark of the lst period. David Sheridan was the marksman as he blasted away Matt Stevenson's rebound after Todd Grey made thé in- itial pass. In the dyîng moment of the 3rrl period David cîrcled behind the net and set up Todd in the slot. Todd made no mistakes and slid it. bet- ween the1 goalie's legs. '(2-0 Orono). Orono feIl asleep in the 2nd period and allowed Millbrook to pop in 3 unanswered goals. Not to be denied the Mat- thew's & Hilîs boys regrouped in the 3rd period to go ahead with 2 quick goals. The lst one was the result of a power play with Todd Grey poking in Blaine Souch's rebound. David Shieridani earned an assist on the play. Todd notched the hat-trick at the 10:36 mark after some tremendous pressure applied by the Orono îeam. For a ful 11/2 minutes the Orono team pu mped at least 8 shots at the Millbrook goalie before Todd found the mark assisted by David Sheridan. Millbrook made it a real match however when they flew back up the ice and evened the game at 4-4 wîîh a goal of their own. David Sheridan notched the game winner at the 6:09 mark when Mike Goodmur- phy made an excellent play to set David up. Todd Grey picked up histh point of the. match when he assisted on the play. Orono hield on to the lead for the remainder of the game with Billy Todd coming Up with 2 excellent saves to sait away the victory. The line of Jeff Hartwig, Blaine Souch and Brian Rodd played strongl Y. Jason Adey played his usual steady game with David Sheridan, all 70 lbs. -"soaking wet" throwing some earth- shaking bodychecks. Millbrook is a well- coach ed, clean-playing team and will be a tough team to beat as the season wears on. On Tuesday, October 29th the Orono Tri-County Peewees travelled to En- nismore for their first game of the season. In the first period the teamns were e-venly miatched and there was no scoring. In the second period, En- nismore jumped in the lead with three unanswered goals. Iii the third period, En- nismore scored again. However at 6:02 in the third period Jeff Devolin scored assisted by Kevîn Robe[ts and at 2:10 Tyler Gîbson scored assisted by Darrin Mercer. Final Score: Ennismore 4 -Orono 2. On Friday, November Ist the Orono Kinsmen Peewees hosted Lakefield. Play was verNy close in the first period but Lakefield scored at the 1:20 mark. In the second period, Jason Burnhiam scored assisted by Tyler Gib- son and Kevin Roy scored assisted by Jamie BaIl. Lakefield scored again at the 2: 10 mark in, the second period to tie the game. The third perîod was shortened to 10 minutes because of Lakefield's late arrivai. Lakefieid scored at 4:51 and at 4:30. Orono answered with a goal by Jamie Baîl assisted by Kevin Roberts at 2:35. Final Score: Lakcfield 4 - Orono 3.
