Four new miemnbers of council now sit around the counicil table, Mayor John Winters and Counciliors Hal McKnight representing the Bowmanville Ward, Frank Stapleton representing Ward Three andi Arnot Wotten representing Ward One. Regional counicillors Ann Cowman, Diane Hamire and Marie Hubbard are the three familiar faces on the new council being re-eiected in the recent election. Members of council were duly sworn to office on Mon- day with the Rev. Edward Schamerhorn conducting the invocation. Sami Cureatz added his words of congratulation to the new council and said he was hopeful of a good work- ing relationship during the months to corne. "My thrill of a life-time" stated Mayor John Winters in opening the Mayor's In- augural address. He thanked those present for their attendance and said it was an important day for al citizens of the community. He congratulated al in- volved in the election and thanked those who gave their support to the mnany can- didlates offering thecir namnes for~ election. A good attendance at the annual show and Christmas Party of Orono Horticulture Society on Thursday, November 28, with visitors from Bowmanville and Newcastle. Following the singing of "O Canada", with Jessica Moster.t on the piano, the president welcom- ed everyone and cailed on our musicians. James and Doreen Lowery and Carlos Tamblyn. This group were also booked for thie town hall cele',ration, so gave us ouf entertainment early. As always their music was much enjoyed by everyone. Mrs. Yvonne Trafford and Mrs. Yvonne Maitiand, our two junior leaders then gave out the prize monies for the junior crowd. The junior ex- hibits were excellent, withl 41 enitries. The winners of mnost points through the year were Damnelle Boremmans for the Juniors, and An drea Trafford for the Sr. Juniors. The win- ners were presented with the on the part of the citizens of the municipality. He said he would like to encourage more participation and said it is difficult to represent the electorate' if they are isolated from the governing body. "We will endeavour to serve in the best interest of the cômmunity", he said. Mayor Winters noted four key objectives, being, economnic growth, ample social and leisure oppor- tunities, a watchful eye as to ithe Town's finances and the maintenacne of competent staff. Following a brief business period, the guest for the evening was introduced, Mrs. Donna Sutherland of Bowmanville, who presented' a very 'colourful and in- novative demnonstration of Christmas decorations. A *reai pretty apple tree (real ap- pies) was created and the speaker told us, it was an old (1800's) Williamsburg, Penn. custom to decorate an apple tree, and that every home had one! Another very attractive hall table arrangement of evergreens, peacock feathers, red carnations etc. drew ap- plause fromn the audience. Donna was thanked and also donated a pretty Christmas lamp- design for a lucky draw.
