Town Of -Ne wl.castle Just George And so wînter lhas final!\y gone, or s0 a friend of mine told ime the othier day, howeNver, being-,a pessimnist, I doubt Ithe authentiCity of that remark. Oh, 1 admit the sun is shiining again (ccsin llyte snow is periodically disappearing from myi lawn, thre robins are back fromt their winter vacation dowýn south, as soi-e of our more affluent neighibours are also. 1 sincerely trust thiey ail had a wonderful timre? Lynnie was destin- ed originally to join the exodus dlown south for a couple of weeks, but due to "technîcal difficýuties"1 the system broke downi, and the trip was abandoned, thereby allowing me to return my cook book to my bookcase, and continue eating in thre wonderful style which I have long been accustomed!! However, 1 was not going to get off so easily. (That money was go- ing to go somewhere.) Perhaps somne of you will recal that a couple of months ago, 1 told you of a visit we spent checking out new cars'? 1 was appalled at the prices involved, and said "no way." However, with my "tail between my legs," (so to speak!!) 1 have to admit that we are nowv the owners of a new automobile. Lynne is happy, and 1 guess thats al that really matters.? 1 didn't intend to bring politics into this short story, but with Meech Lake, and the G.S.T. staring as la Lhe face, and the whole mess being pushed by "You k-now who"? Aided and abetted by a Finance Minister, both of whom, despite the opposition of the peo- ple, are deterrined to have their way, are slowly. but steadily takingp themselves right out of office? Perhaps it is really just as well this happens,. for the injection of new blood, and fresh ideas, area badly needed, and could probably be onîyý for thre better. Like somie people I have spoken withi, I feel more sad than aigr,*Y \vhen Lconsider the mless we're In, but as a last thoughit, an old quota- lion cornes to mind.- "lit is easier to laugh, than it is to cry" Laugh and the world laughs with you, cry, and you cry alone." Think about it. __ Just George. Fire Cails for week The following fire ýcalis were received by the Town of Newcastle Fire Departments during the weeks of March 22 to April 1, 1990.
