William Van Doleweerd of the Durham Regional Police, presently serving the region out of Sunderland. Followîng her graduation Jackie was assigned ta 17 Division in Oshawa, as a police constable. Jackie attended Kirby Public School, and graduated from Clarke High School in 1988. At Clarke Jackie was a stand-out performer in basketball along with track and field. The first game was played in Pickering on May 22nd and Orono went dlown ta defeat by a score of 14-9. Orono was neyer out of contention in the gamne as they held the ead through the first 5 innings. In the seventh in- ning, seven Pickering runners cross- ed the plate ta put the game out of reach. Mike Landers started an the îuaund for the lacals and pitched a very slid five innings of twa it bail. Daryl Reid and Jason Mercer came in oni relief ta pitch the final two innings. Early season contrai prablems plagued bath teamns as the Orono huniers ga ve up a total of 12 walks, while the: Pickering pitchers issued 10 free passes. Orono was able ta muster oniy 4 hits during the cantest with single bits gaing ta Chad Maartense, Larry Houston, Daryl Reid and newcomer Sean Muller. Line score: Pickering 14 Runs; 7 Hits; 1 Error. Orono 9 Runs; 4 Hits; 5 Errars. Orono opened their home season on May 24th against a very good Ajax team and were defeated ta the tune of 10-2. Daryl Reid took ta the mound for his first start of the new season and pitched five very respec- table innings before giving way ta Mike Landers ta start the sixth. The Orono hitters were able ta garner just five hits off the Ajax hurlers with Mike Landers and Daryl Houston getting twa each and Daryl Reid one. Daryl Houstons hits included a double and a triple. This year's Bantam squad con- sists of 15 players, 10 of whom are first year Banitamis who have movýed up front last year's Ontario Chamn- pion PeeWee team. We also have 5 new p!ayens led by middle infielder Chris Yeo and the hard thnowing Jason Mercer. Pete Landers, Craig Houston, and Pete Maartense have returned as coaches and are Iooking forward ta another good season. The boys will find the jump fromn PeeWee ta Bantamn quite a challenge but if they show the same dedication and desire as last year, the team should be competitive at their own level.
