Sunbeam întroduces low EMF, electrie blankets TORONTO -- Sunbeani Corpora- tion (Canada) Limited will launch its 1990 line of Sunbeam and Sîumber Rest electric blankets with virtually ail the magnetic field (EMF) eliminated. The blankets also feature Sunbeam's innovative Personal Monitoring Systemn (P. M.) technology that responds to body temperature, providing additional warmth only where and when need- ed. -There have been some con- sumer questions recently about the use of electric blankets and other electrical appliances due to increas- ed media coverage of the EMF issue," said Ted Melissen, Presi- dent and General Manager of Sunbeam. "There has been no extensive research conducted by Canadian regulatory bodies but following a review conducted last year by the U. S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), a statement was released concluding that "based on current information, FDA sees no reason for people to abandon eîectric blankets. " "Conclusive findings wilI require years of careful research," con- tinued Melissen. "In the-interim Sunbeam has taken the initiative and addressed people's concerns regarding the safety of eîectric blankets. After extensive product research and engineering expent- ditures, we have developed blankets with a 97 per cent reduction in the magnetic field." Melissen notes that Sunbeam is one of the first consumer appliance manufacurers to redesign its pro- ducts to reduce the EMF. ".Electric blankets provîde numerous benefits to users," Melissen declares. "Their light- weight and controlied warmth offer -a better night's sleep.
