Momentum in the Garbage reduction prograrn is on the upturn and with the uptum 72 percent of those ivýing in the area bounded between the K endal-Newtonville Road and Hwy. 115 between the fifth and seventh line roads are now participating. This represents 122 households with a population of 375 people. -And as the numbers participating increase the weight per person of disposaI garbage has been decreasing - now down to 1.4 pounds per person per week. Interest is one the Tise and Kristin McCrea states she wished she knew some way to have the whole of Durham Region participate in suich a programt. The third weekly report still finds Iight bulbs as a problem. Here McCrea points out that Loblaws carries the new energy efficient light bulb and although more expensive they do last. much longer. She said the only problemt is that Loblaws has been having difficulty in keeping a supply. ."Plastic, plastic, plastic, by weight only 7 percent'but t volume is another question", states McCrea. She spoke of the Markhanx prograin as had Mary Rutherford and further stated mhat Peterborough was setting up a sinilar programn. She said keep in mind tat these plastics range from bags, shampoo botules, deordorant bottles etc. etc. McCrea states there is a need for more localized transfer station as in Oshawa and where, she asks is mhe Toxic taxi - still piloting around in Uxbridge? t bas been pointed out that Radio Shack in Bowmanvîlle takes old batteries such as in watches, camnera etc. and further noted is mhe fact mhat many garages will take old batteries with some even paying for them. "I do keep hearing that "M'" as to go somewhere. IT" may be mhe BIG word of the '90s. More simply put "1T is OUR garbage and 'LT" will only go away if WE do something about "LT". Christian Corner By Rev. Marg West Is Anger Sin? Here's a zinger to start our column today.' A man is neyer in worse company than when he flues into a rage and is beside himself. In Ephesians 4:26 it tells us to be angry and sin flot and flot to ]et the sun go down un our wrath. How can we, be angry and not sin? When we are angry we usually lose any cool that we have and usually our actions are not that of someone who is in côntrol of their emotions. How does anger affect you? Do you speak calmly? Are your emotions in control? Do you sometimes stomp around and pcrhaps even throw things? Do you bite on your nails? Webster defines calm as: Freedom from motion or disturbance: stillness; freedom from agitation, excitement or passion: It means to have tranquility serenity. Accordîng to this definition; 1 don't believe we can be angry and not bc in sin. Most people who are angry are abnoxious they will flot lis ten to. any reasonable thing you have to say, they.just rant and rave. Even medical Doctors are starting to sce that this type of behaviour is very hard on our health. Almost everyone realizes that stress is the cause of a lot of todays health problems. We should be striving to do aw the old hymn says - Take your burden to the Lord and LEAVE LT THERE. If we do this then it's flot ours any longer, it belongs to the Lord and He will look after it. (Hie doesn't look after it like we do either doting on it babying it. He gets rid of it). Proverbs 29:22 says "an angry ma n stirreth up surife, and a furious man aboundeth in trangressions. Surife and trangression is-anger and anger is sin.
