Jeff plays for the Orono Tykes and wears numiber 14. Congratulations Jeff! On the evening of Friday, December 21, Shiloh United Church held its amiual Christmas Concert. Despite the fog, the church was filled as everyone camne out to share in the spirit of Chistrnas. We were very forturate again this year to have as our special guest musician Bernie Martin. He provided the accompasiment for the children's choir and the congregation as well as performing solo. The Christmas- songs sounded beautiful as the warm tones of his hammer dulcimer filled the church. The concert began with the childrens choir marching up to the front of the church singing "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." They also sang "Rudolph" and "Drummer Boy". Singing in the choir were, Mara Berzins, Krista Robinson, Valerie and Michael Gray, Nicole and Robin Cooper, ain Scott, Kyle MacDonald, Esme Ward, Sara Maynard, Mary, Sarah and Maia i-ggins. The program was then turned over to Brian Caswell, our M.C. for the evening. Next on the program was a round called "Soulcake" sung by Ingrid Berzins, Bey Higgins and Beie Martin. Then Gary H-iggins read the story of the nativity froin St. Luke. Next we enjoyed hearing ain Scott play the piano. Then James Lowery, Norm Andrews, Brian Caswell and Bemnie Martin (all members of the Fiddle Club) got out their fiddles and rosinned up their bows, and with Doreen Lowery accompanying them on the piano, in no time at all we were al tapping our toes te their liyely fiddle music. Oronovs Graflon # 2 Well boys, you have had a great Hockey Season so far. Thursday, December 20, 1990 the Orono Peewees whomped the. Grafton # 2Tean7 - 1. The gaine started out with great skating by both teamns, then Drew Hansen of Orono scored their first goal assisted by Scott Ransberry. From then on Orono continued to outplay Grafton with sharp dlean passes and very strong skating. Four more goals were scored as follows: Allan Lacey with Jonathan Burnhain assisting, Drew Hansen assisted by Mark Foster. At the 2:15 mark of the first period Allas Lacey drove i another unassisted. kn the final 30 seconds of dhe first period Derek Amnold assisted by Drew Hansen and Scott Ransberry blasted another past Graftons goalie. Orono was strong again in the Second Period with two more goals executed by Mark Foster assisted by Drew Hansen and Derek Arnold, assisted by Drew Hansen, The Third Period, Grafton came on strong giving our goaltender Jeff Goodmurphy a little more Throughout the evening, the congregations voices rose with those traditional Christmas songs like "Hark the Herald Angels," etc. Next, we were entertained by a lovely, medley' of favourite Christmas songs played by Angi Robinson on the piano. Then David Thompson did a nice reading of a unique Christmnas story. When the fiddlers came on a second time, they spontaneously played "Jingle Belîs" (not knowing that this was Santa's cue to arrive), so when Santa heard everyone, singing and clapping along to "Jingle Belîs", he Ho Ho Ho'ed into the church, only then realizing he was a littie early. Being quite a sharp Santa, he said ho' d be right back after he fed the reindeer, and laying a finger aside of -his nose, back down the basement stairs he goes. The children remained alert for the rest of the concert . .. in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would appear! We then heard an interesting story, read by John Bizzell, of the origins of different Christmas customs. Ingrid, Bey and Bernie then sang another round called "Shalom Caverimn". Thon the program came to a close with the children's choir singing, "We Tree Kings", "Silent Night", and wishing the congregation a Merry Christmas in three different languages. And tien we sang "Jingle Beils" and this time it was for rmal, and Santa came to Ho Ho Hoing inanad the children ail came and sat around him. Santa read us some letters he'd received: one from Jin Hallowell asking Santa for a new ban that wouldn't fly away, and a action. Grafîon scored their first goal in the last minute of play. Thanks goes out as well to teammates Frank Van Overloop and Greg Hanimond for great tearn work. Orono vs Bowmanville An Exhibition Gaine was played between Orono and Bowmanville on Thursday, December 27, 1990 in Orono. The first period had hard checking and determination by both teains, along with the great goaltending of Jef Goodmnurphy. The first goal was drove in by Greg Hammond assisted by Allan Lacey and Drew Hansen. Then with great teain work Allan Lace 'assisted by Jonathan Burnhlarn and Derek Arnold surprised Bowmanville with another quick shot into their goal. With die usual great work of our defense Scott Ransberry and Mark Foster along with teanimates, there were very few shots on our goaltender Jeff Goodmurphy. 1 I the third period Orono played superbly. Allan Lacey assisted by Derek Arnold and Drew Hansen slipped in another goal. Minutes later Mark Foster assisted by Drew Hansen and Derek Arnold executed great passing to score yet another goal. With time running out,, Bowmanville just couldn't seemn to get control of the puck. Again great teans work;, Derek Arnold assisted by Mark Foster and Drew Hansen slammed in another goal. The final goal by Allan Lacey assisted by Jonathan Burnhamn and Derek Arnold gave Allan Lacey a hat trick for the gaine as well as a shut out for goaltender Jeff Goodmurphy. The final score was Orono 6, Bowmýanville 0. CORRECTION, In the December 19, 1990 edition of the Orono Weekly Turnes, the Orono Video Ad should have read "Package 1-8 Movies $19.95«.
