Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, February 13,,19911-11 Co-ordinator Extraordinaire steps downfrom Oshawa Ski Hili duties by Peggy Mulian What is ... caring about people? What is being there - for the littie tyke who fell off his skiis into the snow? Or what is looking for the real problem, fmnding just the right cure, and then having the knack of bringing out a smile after it ail? And what is getting out there, in ail sorts of weather, 'round the bends and down the siopes, to make sure everything and everybody is okay? The answer might very well be a great big lovable St. Bernard. The answer over at the Oshawa Ski Club is Mike Fairhart, "Co- Ordinator Extraordinaire." Mike Fairhart was honoured this past Sunday aftemoon under brisk, sunny February skies, as he stepped down as Special Events Co- Ordinator at the Oshawa Ski Club. .Mike, after retiring from General Motors, seemed to find his calling as Co-Ordinator at the Club, taking over from Linda Morrison, his sister, twelve years ago. As Co-Ordinator, Mike was responsible for special events, school outings and any other group or organizational trips. According to his co-workers, one could probably find Mike wherever someone needed hlm as well. His association with the Oshawa Ski Club, spans over twenty-five years. Prior to being their Co- Ordinator, he served approximately eight years on the executive, and before this, was involved for several years with other varied responsibilities, skiing or enjoying his many friendships, stemming from the club. When Dece mber 1990 rolled around, Mike feit it was time to pass over the reigns of Co- Ordinator to long time friend and associate Frank Mohhmi Frank, who is also retired from General Motors, has a natural love for the 'siopes. He is a warm, outgoing individual who enjoys a wealthý of knowledge and experience over the years in writing and broadcasting in the field of sports. But as Frank smiled and added, "It's the wonderful friendly people you find here at the OSC, that makes it so terrifie!'" Sayinig "Thank You" to a frienid. Marion, Mike's wife, and their chidren, Mike Jr., Patty and Jane of Oshawa, Charles of Edmonton and Mary Frances of Banff (and five grandchildren) have always been great supporters. During the off-season, Mike may be thinking snow, but lie can be found playing tennis, golfing or driving about for the Canadian ancer Society, or for "Meals on Wheels." Describing this man, workers and friends at the OSC (his second f-mnily .. .) use words such as . .. "a c nd, unselfish, caring, funny and above and beyotnd the call of duty. " One could say that the words adorning the enormous cake presented to Mike, probably said it ail. . Iniappreciation to Mike Fairhart for many, many years of dedication to the Oshawa Ski Club and its workers. Mike, you have and aiways will be a role model and friend. Thanks from the OSC workers." Mr. Fairhart won't be going anywhere. H1e and. the OSC - a winning combination are not to be undone. It was my pleasure to meet Mr. Fairhart; and to bc made to feel so welcomne into the OSC family on mhis special afternoon. Thank you Carol, Caria, Bill C., Linda M. and mhe gais in mhe ticket office. I dare say, if an ideal atnosphere for great skiing include down homne hospitality, warmth, sincerity, help when you need it, and loads of smniles, (not to mention fine skiing conditions) the Oshawa Ski club lias "the" ticket.
