Native protesters'blocked off the land-claims protests at two Mohawk reserves in Quebec. Bothwell warns that mhis form of protest could happen again if the natives don't get anywhere with their negotiations. There are efforts being made te bridge the gap between tihe races, Bothwell said, but that's flot eno ugh. In her talk, Bothwell was able to relate to one important issue, Amendments to mhe Indian Act in 1985 gave her back her status as an Indian, which she lost when she married a Scot. Although the amendments returned her status, Bothwell worries her children will lose their status if they don't rnarry Indians. She thinks Indians should have the power to decide for themselves just who is an Indian.
