Thanks to David Orono Novice hockey updatenotes Since our iast hockey update, the'Novice hockey teainsbas been very busy. .The past two weeks have had the boys somewhat frustrated in spite of good efforts our team bas lost to Omemee, Ops, Millbrook and Woodville. February 23rd, found Orono participating in a one day tournainent i Little Britain. The fi rst gainse of the day had Orono playing against Oshawa Blackhawks. They were too much for our teain, beating thein by a score of 10-1. Orono's goal was netted by Bobby Witheridge fromn Brandon Caruana. Orono met Markhamn for their second gaine. This gaine favored Orono 2-1. It seems the teans just needed a little break to spark themn on. Bobby Witheridge and Andrew Beacock, each scored, unassisted for Orono's victory-. Little Britain was Orono's conipetition for their final gainse of the day. This turned out to be a great One for Orono. Andrew Reid had one goal and one assist, Bobby Witheridge had 2 goals and one assist, Tyler Robinson scored one goal, Greg Shetier one goal, Greg Bester one assist and Corey Tufts one assist. This tally gave Orono a well deserved 5-0 victory for the "BDivision" Championship. Nice work boys! Mfter this full day of hockey, Orono, then travelled to Omemee, February 24th, for another playoff ganse. Th inal score was a 3-3 tie. Orono'.s goals were credited to Bobby Witheridge and Andrew Reid, receiving assists frons Jamie Parry, Corey Tufts and Brandon Caruana. March lst, the boys were on the ice again, hosting Manvers. March 3rd the teamn travelled to Manvers for their last playoff game. This ganse did flot favor Orono well, as they fell to their opponents 5-0. The score might have been much different if al Grono's near goals had crossed the un*e. This edition ends our regular season and playoff schedule, but is certainly flot the end of this year's hockey. he players car take a few days of well deserved rest, before future exhibition games. just George'. Last week I had a birthday. Nothing unusual in that, for presumab ly everybody has birthdays, (even though some people won't admit it). But I'm different? For after passing "40"? l's nicely irritating to be reminded that you can no longer "Jump tal buildings with a single bound" or conversely "who does he think he is? Boasting that lie can still run 50 yards in haif an hour"!!! I still feel young even then my grandsons tower over me, and condescendingly offer to carry my beer glass o ver to the rocker for me! However, I still have most of my faculties. (Some of them anyway) But looking back in 0 a retrospect, - whatever that means, birthdays do have a large influence on your life. You car always look back at what (if anything) you have achieved, or you can look ahead to what you'd like to do. (Given the time, money, and initiative to "Go For It"). I listened to an announcer on radio a few days ago who quoted a doctor's advice on what you should do to protect your health. Unfortunately, V've already done rnost of the things I shouldn't do, but strangely enough I (so far) feel great!!! (Somnebody must have their signaIs crossed) So why not enjoy life you're own way - regardless, you only ive once, which is Day Care Receive $45,125 In Grants Port HI-opes Sunshine Heights Day Care will receive $25,125 and the Cobourg Family Y Child Care will get $20,000 of the totalled $45,125 in grans received from the Ontario Ministry of Community and Social Services for expansion and renovations to be made on the day cares. probably just as well. Have you ever noticed the similarity of childhood and middle age? Early in life there was my mother (bless her) telling me what I should, and should flot, do - and now ' several" years later ît's my wife 'Trying it on for size"!! I treat them both the same way, - "acknowledge and forget'!! The war in the Gulf seems, to be ail over, bar the shouting, and despite the endless parade of so called specialists on T.V. telling us what was going to happen, (most of which, didn't) it ail came to an inevitable conclusion. 1 feel sad for those that were unfortunately in the wrong place at dhe wrong time, but that is risks that have to be taken. The saddest part is that, like most wars, the dreains and desires of one madman can involve whole nations unnecessarily, - for what? Just a lousy drearn and desire for power. (How are the mighty fallen) I think I would have made a good dictator but unfortunately my grades were too low, and l'ru too modest! I guess I don't have to remind, you that winter is flot over yet (since Christmas 1 haven't needed an alarm dlock, the snow plough wakes me regularly) and if's usually a toss Up" between "Bill" next door and myseif who gets his snow blower in action first. - He usually wins anyway!! But then, he's younger than me, and' therefore more active!! And now that we're into March we cari hopefully see the "end of the tunnel" and start preparing for Spring. (What a wonderful thought that is - however keep die woolies on for a while yet folks - but think positive! If it makes you feel any better - remneirber that in Australia sumnier is coming to an end and their weather will soon be getting cooler. (Probably right down to a miserable +20c!!) Now doesn't that nake you feel lucky? Kýeep s miling!
