One of the areas open for the hunt runs in areas from Oshawa east to Kingston and north to Peterborough and Lindsay. Attendance at a pre-registration seminar is a requirement to obtain a wild turkey validation tag at Lindsay for the immediate area. Phone 705-748-6324 for further information. Aware contract for highway construction The Ontario Transport Ministry has announced the awarding of a contract for highway construction this sunimer for Highway 121 fromt Hlighway 35 at Lindsay north to Fénelon Falls. Extra funding for Durham College Gord Mfilîs, M.P.P. for Durham East bas announced extra funding for Durhami College in the amnount of $392,000. Tlhe funds are to assist Durham College, improve facilities provig better accessibility to the disabled and to improve the institutions physical plant. Bell to provide new area code for area 1Due to the increasing number of phone installation in the 416 aiea Bell is about to introduce another coded area which would include the Region of Durhami and areas west of Toronto. Metro Toronto will retain the 416 area code. The change-over is expected to take place in 1993. What -about this - drop in gas prices Reports bave it that gas prices have dropped - to 46 cen--ts- occasions in the lakefront area and locally prices have been down to 47 cents a litre. Seniors Centre receives $171,OOO The Oshawa Seniors centre will receive $171,000 in 1992 of provincial funding for an expansion of their complex in the City. -This will meet half the cost of the expansion to the complex located at the corner of John and Centre Streets. Hydro checking fuel bundies SThree darnaged fuel bundles that caused the shut-down of Unit 2 at the Darlington Hydro plant are being examnined. The bundles are being sent to Calk River facility of AECL for the check-out. Unit 2 was the first unit to be placed into operation at Darlington but was shut-down in January due to the fuel bundle problems. Want more money from Aggregate operators Durham Region had a proposai supported at the recent Good Roads convention asking the province to collect more rnoney from aggregate operators to assist in repairs to roads damaged by-heavy gravel trucks. Durhama has said the one to two cents a tonne is flot enough to keep the roads in repair w 'ith a major portion of the deterioration coming from heavy gravel trucks. Bowmanville student takes part Jennifer Laing, a Bowmanville H-igh.School student, was one of a number of Canadian students taking part in seminars with a similar number of Soviet students for a perioti of a week in Toronto. The seminar was called the Glasnost and the Global Village conference'. Subjects ranged from sexual , equality to the environment. Laing bas said that the enviroament must be approached with ail countries involved with an international approach. She also suggested that the equal rights movemnent may be going too far and that hiring practices may be discriminatory against men. March is Red Cross month The Canadian Red Cross Society, a long-time organization working in the local communities and as well intemationally holds the month of March as Red Cross Society month. They ask support financially through the sale of flowers and as well as that people assist with time. 'Me blood clinic operation of the society is well known in local communities.
