4-Orono Weeky Times, Wednesday, Marcb 13,1991 4-H Ctuo' Potato Club 24th Annual N ews Repoi The second meeting of the 4-H f Couch Potato Club was held on Wednesday, March 6th from 7 1 p.m. to 9 p.mn. at the Clarke Hfigh School gym. Vigorous physical exercise was lead by Lois McLeod. We did sit ups, push ups, Orono opened the .playoffs last week on a sour note losing their first gaine by one goal to the visiting Batimore team. In ffrst period action Baltimore built up a 2-O lead by out hustling the home teain, keeping them off the score sheet. They added two more goals early in the second period to expand their lead, then halfway through the period Grant Esler slid one by Baltimores goalie after breaking in alone and making a niice move in front of the net to put Orono in flight. Steven Foster scored Oronos second goal on a good rushing play assisted from Brett Maartense and B J. Hackett to end the second period. Orono out played and out scored Baltimore i the final period with Grant Esler Up-edaote ore, This weekend Orono Novices played in a 3 day tournament in Oshawa. Lately, the boys have been playing their best hockey of the year. We spectators, have enjoyed some great gamnes. Friday aftemoon, the teamn faced the Unionville jets, for their first gaine. Bobby Witheridge got a Hat Trick with assists from Kyle Beacock, Tyler Robinson and Corey Tufts and once unassisted. This fine effort earned Bobby "Most Valuable Player of the Gaine." Greg Sheiler scored the final goalof iis gaine making die tally .4-0 for Orono. The boys had to wait until laie Saturday afternoon for iheir second gaine. This trne, the competition was Oshawa Red Wings. Orono goals were scored by Andrew Beacock, Kyle Beacock, Bobby Witheridge, and Kevin Francis. Assists were credited to Bobby Witheridge and Jarnie Parry who also earned M.V.P. of the gaine. Another great gaine, making the score Orono 5, Oshawa 1. ,Sunday morning had everyone skipping, stepping and the arch and ail other physical things. On March 6, Orono hosted the visiting Warkwurth team and through three periods of play Warkworth was no match for the stronger Orono team losing 10-2. Oronos goal scorers were, Greg Bull 2 goals, 1 assisi; Devon Witheridge 2 goals, 1 assist; B.J. Hackett 2 goals, 1 assist; Grant Esler 1 goal, 2 assists; Mîke Morrison 1 goal, 2 assists; Jamie Richter 1 goal, 1 assist;_Bobby Witheridge 1 goal; Brett Maartense 4 assists; Amy Jane McAllister 2 assists; Andrew Reid 1 assist. vice port up and at it rather early, as Orono played the first game of the day (8:00 a.m.). For the final round robin gaine, Orono met L.N.H.L. Canadians. Goalie Michael Gibson chalked up his second shut out of the tournament, while our boys netted the puck 8 times. Goals went to Bobby Witheridge, Tyler Robinson, Greg Rester, a pair 10 Brandon Caruana, and a HatiTrick to Andrew Beacock. The only assist is credited to Andrew Reid. Brandon Caruana was chosen M.V.P. for his fine effort in this gaine. Afier the round robin series, Orono fmnished, first overail, out of 12 tearns.. For the "A" Chainpionship gaine, Oronormet the second place teain, Lindsay. The only goal of the gaine was scored by Lindsay, au the 8:16 mark of the first period. Both teams lrealed the fans to a close, actionfiled game. The M.V.P. award for tbis game wenu to Greg Shetîer, for, his constant determination. It certainly was a funi weekend! High score was taken by Myrtie Gibson wiih a score of 92; 2nd high Dean Polley, 89; 3rd bigh Brenda Lowery, 89; 4th bigh Pearl Clark, 85. The draw was won by Eddie Couroux. Next card party, Friday, March 15th, corne on out, brig a friend and enjoy a fun nighi. Wear sometbing green, you may be in for a surprise. The Menis Lodge met at the hall on Wednesday, March 6th. The Junior Lodge will be meeting this Thursday, March l4th; wiih the Ladies Lodge meeting on Thursday, March 21st. On Tuesday, March 5th, 4 members of Kendal HuIs L.O.B.A. and 10 members of Tyrone L.O.B.A. travelled by bus to Napanee, where they attended a supper honouring the Grand Orono Atoms now enter playoffs Juried Art Exhibition at Mcbaughlin Gallery The Oshawgt Art Association is currently inviting entries for the upcoming juried show in May. To enter the show you must bc a resîdent of Durham Region or be a member of the Oshawa Art Association (membership paid by March 31, 1991). There is a lirait of three works per artist and a fée for each entry as follows: -$5.00 for O.A.A. memabers; $9.00 for non-members. Works must be originals, completed within the last 18 months.
