Its that trne of year again Yes ifs that trne of year when dhe bird-watchers adrenalin starts to flow real fast. The first wave of migratory birds have arrived and that is quite obvious especially 'as it relates to water fowl. The waterfront is coming alive with those who have spent the cold winter days south of the border. It is at this Urne of y=arthat the birds are ia their full colour and their antics to win a mate are often interesting to observe. The waters at Presquile Park ý. are a big attraction for waterfowl and so thus it is for birdwatchers. Last week tie Red Heads, Canvas Backs, Buffleheads, Blacks, Old Squaws,- Scope, Goldeneyes, Common Mergansers were ahl evident and considerably plentiful considering the ice had not totally left the bay. This and next week should have the birds in the bay in large numbers. The Ministry bas set up observation blinds and there is always someone present to give you a hand in taking a turn viewmng the birds and explaining just what they are. On Sunday a brief tip to the Garden Hill Pond produces a Wood Duck ini full colour, a Snow Goose beautifully marked along with Hooded Mergansers, Common Mergansers, Pintail, Blacks, Mallards, and Red Heads. As to mating antics, the Bufflehead and the hooded- Merganser will -throw their heads back and skirt about. The Old Squaws have a similar antic and scoot out over thxe water. We did have a bonus on Sunday on our retura to Orono - a pair of Red Crossbills calmly feeding on tieroadl and allowing plenty of time for identification. This bird is a radier tame bird and shows littie fear of humans. If you havent tried bird watching it might pay to take a taste and the next couple of weeks is a great opportunity. The sport is not a costly one and to get started %i trip to Presquile puis you ini the k__.nidst of thxe show to-day and there are people there to help.
