4-Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, March 20, 1991 A win and a tie for Orono Atoms On March iSth, Warkworth welcomed Orono and after thrce periods of play, Orono walked away with a 9-0 victory. Warkworth played well but could not -defend against the stronger Orono teain. The goal scorers were as follows: Jamie Richter 3 goals, 3 assists,. Brett Maartense 2 goals, 3 assists, Greg Bull 2 goals, 2 assists, Steven Foster 1 goal, 2 assisîs, Bobby Witheridge 1 goal and Devon Wimheridge picking up an assist. Also a good defensive gaine froin Mike Morrison and Ryan Schoep recording the shut-out. March 19th, Orono travelled to Bewdley where our boys played a very physical gaine. Bewdley jumped int the lead early in mhe first period but lien Brett Maarîenise evened the score after slapping tie puck by the netininder with assisîs going 10- Grant Esler and Jamie Richter. 0Orono îlook the lead when Greg Bull wenî Up bigh on mie Bewdley goallender wili lie aisist going 10 Mike Morrison 10 end the period. With. only four minutes left 10 play, Steven Foster lied the gaine wimh Jamie Richter and Devon Wimheridge each picking up an assist, but lien Bewdley, on a deflection, îook mhe lead laIe -in mhe gaine. With one minute left in mhe gaine, Orono pulled their goalie and went with a 6h attacker, and il paid off as Steven Foster scored bis second of gamne with Brett Maartense picking up mhe aisist t0 end mhe gaine in a 5-5 lie. Tuesday Feb. 26/91 Orono: iosted Bewdley one last lime during the regular hockey season. Bewdley and Orono boti skated exceptionally well with great teamwork among eaci otier. Excitement was feuI lhroughout the whole gaine. Exceptional skating and cbecking amnong boti teams kept everyone on the edge of their seats. Afler seven Overtime Periods Orono came out the victors winning 3-2. Allen Lacey scored lie first goal in lie third period for Orono with Mark foster and Scot Ransberry assisting. In the last nineteen seconds of the third period Scott Ransberry unassisted made a fantastic shot 10 lie lie game. During lie sevenli overtime period Cobo urg took a penalty and Mark foster drove in the winning goal. This earned Orono.a final playoff spot against Baltimore for lie ",A" Cianpionship. Orono vs Baltimore After a very exhilaraîing and uiring gamne with Cobourg, one hour later Orono wai back on the ice 10 play off against Baltimuore. GREAT GOING BOYS! Orono Pee Wees Enter Playofîs Orono VS Baltimore Tuesday Marci 5/91 Orono- travelled 10 Baltimore to begin their playoffs. Orono dominaled througiout tie gaine 10 defeat Baltimore 10-1. This did flot sém like the saine teain that they played during the tournament the past weekend. Goals scored were as follows: Allen Lacey-4, Scott Ransberry-2, Derek Arnold-2, and Jonathan Burnham and Frank Van Overloop each scored one. Orono vs Baltimore Thursday March 7/91 Orono hosted Baltimore for the second gaine during the playoffs. This lime Baltimore played exceptionally well- compared to Tuesdays game. Their continued efforts kept Orono on guard at al times. During mhe first period Baltimore scored the first goal. No more goals were scored until die second period. Mark foster and Derek Arnold each scored a goal to put Orono ahead of the garne. assisis were picked up by Derek Arnold, drew Hansen, Mark Foster and Devon Wiîheridge. Goalie Jeff Goodmurphy made plenty of great saves 10 prevent Baltimore from scoring again., Only one goal in the third period was scored by Derek Arnold, assist went 10 Drew Hansen. There was excitement throughout the whole game as Baltimore really gavean effort 10 win. But Orono managed t0 keep mheir lead and wmn the gaine 3- 1. Due to an injury during Tuesdays niglit gaine player Greg Hainmond will sit out the rest of die season. We ail wish hlm a speedy company. Orono vs Bewdley Now into their third playoff gaine Orono sîjîl remains in, first place ini their league.' Tuesday Mardi 12/91 Orono hosted Bewdley in a quick and ciallenging gaine. Orono came on stronger 10 defeat Bewdley 6-1. Allen Lacey drove in mhe first goal with assists going to Derek Arnold and Mark Foster. The second goal was made by Frank Van Overloop wimh assists going 10 Allen Lacey and Mark Foster. The second period Bewdley ,managed 10 gel one past Orono's goalie. Thbis only gave Orono the determination 10 try harder. Allen Lacey dug in again 10 score wimh Mark Foster assisting. The third period goalie.Jeff Goodmurphy made some great saves 10 prevent Bewdley froin scoring anymore goals. Orono once again put the move on Bewdley 10 score îhree-more, goals. Jonathian Burnham drove in a great shot assisted by Mark Foster. Allen Lacey assisted by Mark Foster earned bimself a bat- trick for bis third goal during mhe gaine and Frank Van Overloop surprised Bewdley with a quick shot. Derek Arnold and Devon Witheridge each picked up an assist. tharks goes out as well 10 player Scott Ransberry for al bis great plays during the game and Devon Witheridge and Steven Foster who came up from the Atoins 10 give us their support when we were short-handed.
