Wbile researching variaus air incidents lof World War 11, retired Royal Canadian Air Force Pilot Bill Menzies eventually heard of Melville Jones' discovery, just east of Newtonville ... Melville found a large ring amid the rubble, in the aftermath of a plane crash in 1940. He bad it mounted witb a brass plate below it, honouring the men of the downed plane. The ýplaque reads: "At 12:00 Noon, Monday, June 10, 1940, Hon. Norman McLean Rogers, Ministers of National Defense and three members of an RCAF -Bombing plane crew east of tbis village (at Elliott's) garage; May A very popular montbly event, down at Newtonville Public School, are the monthly assemblies. Highway 2, just east of the egg farm in Newtonville was the location of this very upsetting scene, Tuesday morning, March 12.A serious two-car accident caused traffic ta be diverted down Hill Street, as police cars, two ambulances and two fire trucks rushed to the collision sigbt, blocking tbe road for a couple of hours. Mrs. Rutb DeWildt of Newtonville, hier daughter Sasha 12, son Eric 3, and nephew Marcel Archer of Mississauga crasbed head on with another car that was coming east on No. 2 as tbey were headed int Bowmanville for a doctors appointment. AIl were taken by ambulance bo Memorial Hospital. Mrs. DeWildt and Eric suffered minor cuts and bruises. They were released later thaï day. Students bave bad excellent classroom sessons witb Durbam Regianal Police in all aspects of young people at tbe grade five and six levels are definitely concernied with family crisis, law, punishment, drugs and the pressures of being pre-teens.
