" ABOUT OIL AND GARBAGE A long time ago 1 can recali former U.S. President Jimmy Carter telling the folks down in the United States that conservation was a moral equivalent of war. It still is. The world, eventually, is going to run out of oil. I the meantime, we get'mucb of ours from the planet's most unstable region. Wben we look at that, doesn't it make common sense to conserve what we Parents' Activity Nigbt..(and you do flot have to have a cild attending the school to come along). R, Simser and Vice Principal B. A. Isaac for getting it off the ground... There are some positive vibrations simmering in the Village.. "Lets keep in touch. Have a super week. have? The same strategy can also apply to our garbage disposai habits. We have to conserve the space we have to put garbage into, or else we wil suffocate. Right now, we're oul and garbage junkies. They are our fast-food so to speak. And if we continue to dine at that restaurant our arteries are going to clog sure as anything. Someone needs to be a good doctor and tell us to put down our forks. Lets say there are two friends. Each weigbs 300 pounds. Their diet is made up of hamburgers, frencb fies and milk shakes. Tbey have bigb blood pressure and chest pains. Tbey both resolve to do sometbing about it. They visit their respective doctors. Doctor A knows how much bis patient loves hamburgers and fries, but he fears that a depressing diagnosis will lose a customer. So Doctor A tells his patient not to worry about cbanging bis lifestyle. Instead, Doctor A prescribes. medicines that relieve the blood pressure, chest pains and anxiety, but do notbing for long range health. Doctor B knows bow much ber patient loves junk food, too. And she knows that a change-in-lifestyle recominendation might depress ber patient. But she goes ahead anyway: she advîses exercise and a diet heavy in fruit and vegetables. The patient is upset at first - lie doesn't think he cari change - but agrees to give it a try. At first exercising and eaing different food is a sacrifice. But then he starts losing weight. And be feels better. He has much more strength and energy that he bas had in many years. He grows to enjoy exercise, bealthful food - and the feeling he is ini charge of his own destiny. Our provincial goverrnment I'm sure respects everyone. Do you get the feeling down at Queens Park, that tbey are telling ail of us to eat our vegetables?
